Ohio State Men's Tennis (2014/2019/2024 ITA Indoor National Champs, 17 Straight B1G Titles)

Chase Buchanan is competing in the 18 and under division of the US Open.
After the automatic qualifier into the open division and subsequent loss to Tsonga, Chase entered the Junior draw as an unseeded qualifier.
His first round match was against the #11 seed Kevin Kraweitz of Germany.
Chase started slowly dropping the first set, 6-3, but finished strong winning the 2nd and 3rd sets 6-1, 7-5.

Up next for Buchanan is H. Ehara of Japan.
Love seeing Chase make some noise as an unseeded entry in the junior draw and get some strong experience in heavy competition on the biggest stage of the tennis world.

Football has been the dominant sport this weekend but another Buckeye student athlete has been representing the Scarlet and Gray successfully at Flushing Meadows New York. On the biggest stage of the tennis world, Chase Buchanan's run through the US Open Junior's is still alive!
In the quarterfinals he was matched up with the number 1 seeded Yuki Bhambri of India. In a tough match Friday, Chase rallied to pull the shocker in straight sets with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) victory. It appears the match was played in the indoor training facility but cannot comfirm the location.
In yesterday's semifinal, Buchanan squared off with Gianni Mina of France and carried the victory by a 6-3, 6-3 score.
Today's Final in the Junior championship matches Buchanan against the #3 seed Bernard Tomic of Australia, a tall big serving righty. The match is sceduled to be played at Noon on court 11. Good Luck Chase and represent the colors well.:osu:

I have a question, well I have many questions, but I will try to limit my tennis ignorance to just one. I am having a hard time understanding the rankings. I guess I don't understand how Buchanan can be ranked in the low 100s of Juniors while two other Ohio State players are ranked much higher and Chase was the runner-up in the U.S. Open Juniors tournament. I know that you have to qualify to play in the U.S. Open Juniors so does that mean that the guys that are ranked above Chase did not qualify for the U.S. Open Juniors tournament or is there an age limitation. I am just having a very difficult time understanding the rankings and how guys are seeded when it comes to "college" tournaments.

On a side note, it is interesting to notice that McCarthy is playing doubles with someone else rather than Lippert because when they were in high school together they won the states doubles championship. I guess that McCarthy has really improved because of his early enrollment. That would be my guess.
