Petey loses and Rola wins. That is okay. Peter will be back next year bigger and stronger plus he got screwed with the NCAA and their seeding for this tournament:crazy: Both guys are All Americans because they made it to the final 16.

Found this in an article regarding the number of foreign-born players dominating the high school tennis scene. I do not quite understand what happened to the player from Pepper Pike because he had "high interest" from Ohio State. He did not lose one game last year on his way to the Division II singles championship. I do not know if he is injured or where he is going to school or even if he is going to school.
Pepper Pike Orange junior Max Kan lost just five games in four matches on his way to the Division II singles championship last year.

Even competitors such as Columbus Academy coach Jeff Warstler took notice of the performance.

“He’s the best player I’ve ever seen in an Ohio tournament,” Warstler said. “To him, it was like just another qualifying tournament over the weekend.”

Another highly ranked junior captivating the high-school scene is nothing new. But the fact Kan, born in Uzbekistan, is not playing high-school tennis this year, yet he is symbolic of the shift toward international players that has taken hold in Ohio, especially in Columbus.

Ohio State junior Blaz Rola advanced to the NCAA men’s tennis singles quarterfinals today with a straight-set victory, but teammate Peter Kobelt was eliminated.

Rola, ranked 12th, defeated South Carolina’s Tsvetan Mihov 6-3, 6-2 in the Round of 16. He will play Saturday against Duke’s Henrique Cunha or Washington’s Kyle McMorrow. Mihov had beaten second-seeded Alex Domijan of national champion Virginia in the first round of the tournament.

Kobelt, ranked eighth and seeded seventh, uncharacteristically struggled to hold his serve against Pepperdine’s Sebastian Fanselow while losing 6-4, 6-2. The redshirt junior from New Albany was broken once in the first set and twice in the second.

Rola, a native of Slovenia, advances to the quarterfinals for the third straight year. He lost in that round a year ago after making it to the semifinals as a freshman.

Blaz Rola will play his quarterfinal match today at 1 pm, against Henry Cuhna of Duke.
Rola has been very efficient in the tournament to date, but Cuhna is out of this world.
In the last two rounds against the elite of the NCAA, the Duke senior has won 24 games and lost 2! :yow1:

Rola with an impressive quarterfinal finish,
Cuhna had been dominating the past 2 rounds, came out strong in the first set, then Rola got zoned in, closing out Cuhna in the final two.
Tomorrow's semifianl is set for 1 pm and matches Blaz of tOSU against #41 ranked De Klerk of Tulsa. DeKlerk also went 3 sets to upset TSUN's Evan King in the quarters.
