Damn. I feel terrible for Peter..that first serve looked to be an ace and then he mishit his second.

What a run...took UCLA right to the limit..no shame in it it what so ever. I hope the team can keep their head up...because they certainly made me proud to be a Buckeye.

yea, I thought he had an ace there

Great season, Strong leadership from Devin McCarthy and Connor Smith. and much to anticipate in the future,...
hearing of at least one blue chip European junior who will be arriving in the fall.

The individual portion of the NCAA tournament begins Wednesday,
Kobelt will be playing Saba of Duke at 2:30 pm.
Rola's first round match vs. McLachlan of Cal starts at 10 am.

In today's NCAA championship final match, UCLA gave Virginia all it could handle, it was 3-3 and UCLA's #3 Puget was at 5-3 in the third set, had a championship point when Mitchell Frank hit his shot long, apparent UCLA victory, however the umpire ruled Puget's shoe had touched the net, awarding the point to Virginia.
Frank broke, held and won the match and championship 7-5 in the 3rd set.

Blaz Rola won in the first round of the NCAA single's tournament with a 6-2, 7-6 victory over Ben McLachlan of Cal.

Kobelt is scheduled to play at 3:30 but a storm during the early afternoon will likely delay some starts.

litlbuck is connected, has more sources for inside team information.
Gracelhink would love to see Rola return,
if he does, IMHO
1. BRols and Kobe would dominate on the double's court.
2. With a good season in 2013-14 Rola would shatter the records for Most career single's wins,
3. career double's wins, and
4. combined wins in OSU tennis history books.
5. Rola would also have a chance to finish his degree, and refine his post tennis career vocation.
The buzz from Champaign, there seems to be quite a few players at the NCAA level that will be foregoing their eligibility and turning pro this year.
USTA and ITF satellite, challenger and future's tour is not as lucrative as some think and is full of talented young competition.

For next year, McCarthy, Smith, and Van Engelen are gone, only one recruit is signed to date, though a recruit from Florida has an offer pending, This suggests to me that the team needs Blaz to return. :wink2:

Peter Kobelt advanced to the 2nd round and will face Novikov, who played first single's for runner up UCLA, the math is scheduled for today at 11 am.
Rola will have an easier assignment in the 2nd round, Malte Stroop of Miss st. is ITA ranked #67. Rola's match is slated to start at 11:30 am.
The path for a deep run was made smoother for both Buckeyes. Rola and Kobelt were placed in the sections of the draw where they would potentially face the two highest seeds--Rola vs. #2 in the 16's and Kobelt vs. #1 in the quarters.
But yesterday both the #1 seed Libetius of Tenn and #2 seed Domijian of Virginia were upset in the 1st round.
Still a long way to go but these Buckeyes have a much more favorable and winnable draw now.
Buckeye double's team of Kobelt and Smith will play their first round of the individual double's tournament this afternoon at 4:30.
They will face a tough task, the #2 seed from Duke.
This Buckeye fan is rooting for a major first round upset, and for a Buckeye double's squad going back to back in the NCAA Double's championship.
