Ohio State Men's Lacrosse (2013 ECAC Champions)

2-0 for the season. Defeated Detroit Mercy 14-8 at the WHAC today.

Watched the game on a streaming service. Camera work was really really bad but I guess it's better than no lacrosse.

Still having issues at the face off X. Withers was really streaky. Frankly, the entire game was streaky. They went up early 5-1 and then Detroit came back to tie it... I think it was 6-6.

Without a doubt it looks like early season lacrosse. Some good play and some not so good general sloppiness. The Bucks just had better athletes and you'll win games like that.

The young ones look good though. There are a lot of very young guys getting serious minutes. Bodes well for the future, but they'll have to figure out face offs quick if they expect to compete with MD, Hop and frankly State Penn this year. B1G lacrosse is going to be strong this year.

UMass next week at the WHAC. One of my son's club coaches was an AA LSM for UMass. Will be a good week for some smack talk in practices.

3-0 for the year. Took down UMass in the shoe. Was at a box lacrosse tourney all weekend that my son played in.

Just got home and haven't watched the game yet. Going to see if my streaming service archives the games shortly.

For what it's worth, this is a program first beating UMass. One of the kids in my son's club team is a 2018 UMass commit and they drove down to watch the game. Glad they got to see LAX in the shoe.

Nice win for this group. Good prep for the B1G season.

Edit: Watched the game. Most complete game they've played this season. Withers played much better at face off. I think that he was something like 12-19 which is good. I think his draws were better than the box score would suggest. We just didn't win a few of the ground balls.

The young ones continue to impress. Have to start learning their names as it looks like they'll be on the field for a solid four years.

Interestingly, Tom Carey (goalie) was pulled after the first for Smidt. Carey had only one save in the first against three goals. That said, I'm not sure how many goalies could have saved the three that got through. Interesting move to pull a seasoned net minder. Will be interested to see if that sticks. Smidt did look very good between the pipes for three quarters. Well composed, made a lot of good saves and ran the clears very well. No drop off at all.

Doubled up Marquette 12-6 for the fifth win of the season. Away game and first of two this weekend.

Slowish start again. 2-2 after the first... and even then we didn't score our second goal until a man up situation with about a minute left if the first.

Full game footage in the above link. Not sure if you'd be able to get to it as may be part of my subscription package, but since it's on a different domain, maybe it will work for you.

Bellarmine is up next on Sunday.

6-0 for the year now with this win over Bellarmine. First time since something like '66 since the team has been 6-0.

Bit of a slowish start again. Sat with the parents and there was some talk about that. Pretty much everyone knows that they need to start faster against B1G competition.

FoGo was good today. Would have to check the box but it felt like 80%+. Withers got a bit of a break at FoGo. I think the guy taking draws in his stead is a freshman. Glad to see them getting some time for the young ones in case of any injury.

They had Bellarmine doubled up 10-5 at the half and finished 14-11. Have to give it to Bellarmine's kids, they didn't roll over. They really played aggressive defense in the second half. Their poles were on ball pretty much the entire time.

Fun game to watch. Only a couple more tune ups and into B1G play.

Edit: by my count four more games before B1G play. Some good ones coming up that, should they win, will help with rankings.

Next up: Cleveland State. The only other D1 program in the state and it's their first year at D1.

Then we're looking at Towson, Denver (who has easily the top FoGo in the country with Trevor Baptiste... The kid is unreal) and then the Domers (who knocked off #1 UMD this weekend).

If we go 2-2 in the next four I'd call it a day heading into B1G... Towson could sneak up on them if they don't get off to a quicker start. And if Withers has a good day, we could beat Denver. It would take an act of God to beat the Domers IMHO.

In the B1G I like us over TSUN. That on paper is a win. State University of New Jersey is playing well this year. I would guess we'll be 1-1 between Rutgers and State Penn. I see two losses with UMD and Hop. Beating either of those two would be very nice wins.
