Ohio State Men's Lacrosse (2013 ECAC Champions)

First order of biz. Jake is now the career GB stat leader for tOSU. Congrats. That's a shitload of GBs.

Second, got another W v Cleveland State. Not an unexpected outcome and the game was frankly not a ton of fun to watch. More of a glorified practice.

Shit gets real this week. Towson this week (Tuesday) at their place. Sunday we've got Denver at home. We'll find out very quickly how good this team is. 1-1 in the next two would be very OK. 2-0 would be a good sign. I expect Towson to be close. Denver will be a good game if Withers plays out of his mind.

Game on...

Game day.

Game moved due to storms in MD this week.

Listen here: https://portal.stretchinternet.com/towson/portal

Bucks up 2-0 in the first. First goal was a garbage goal... but it counts.

Withers 3-0 for face-offs.

Edit: 3-1 at the half. Really low scoring considering that we've put up double digits all year. That said, you can see the snow in the twitter link above. Nobody likes playing in those conditions.

We're getting a lot of shots on goal. Stat line looks good for us thus far with the exception of saves... but that's because we're peppering their goalie... but he's playing very well.

Edit 2: Good win today. 6-3 final. First real test of the season in my opinion.

Next game Friday PM. Denver. ESPNU 5:00 PM eastern.

Great story about Eric Fannell's journey to tOSU.

http://www.uslaxmagazine.com/college/men/ohio-states-eric-fannell-i-love-lacrosse-more-than-myself

Eric Fannell’s reputation — intimidating, aloof, with the lore of an unseen Canadian talent — preceded him. And in some ways, people were right about him. The kid dressed in all black and wore his hat low, covering a buzz cut. He kept answers about himself to one word, avoided eye contact.

Fannell, as Ohio State men’s lacrosse captain Tyler Pfister put it, was “rough around the edges.” That was Pfister’s first impression, at least, when he met his new teammate and helped him move into a one-bedroom apartment in August of 2015.

Coach Nick Myers tabbed Pfister, an Ohio native, to help with Fannell’s transition from St. Catharines, Ontario — by way of tiny Division III Adrian College in Michigan — to Columbus. Gradually, over the course of lunches three to four times a week, usually at Asian restaurants like Mark Pi’s on High Street, Fannell’s tough outer layers peeled away like flaky crust falling off an egg roll.

Really solid win today. I was a bit worried since the biggest "test" to date was a Marquette team that I don't think is as good as last year and a bunch of nobodies. This is a road win over a perennially good team, on the road, in crappy conditions. It was also a grinder of a win, which makes me feel good since the MO of Buckeye lacrosse seems to be "who cares how many they score as long as we put the ball in their net more".

Denver will be really tough, but we hung right with them last year with, imo, a less talented squad. It's at home as well. If we can pull it off, we could see a top 10 ranking next week. That certainly would be something else.

It was a good win. Still concerned with the relative slow starts. Given that the sum of the two teams today didn't reach double digits, it's hard to get a read on that dimension.

Towson did have a lot of TOs today. Not sure if it was the conditions, but it sounded pretty sloppy while I was listening.

Denver will be interesting. We could be the letdown game following their win over the Domers. A lot will be riding on Withers. He ended up having a great day today going 11-13... but Towson ain't got nobody like Bpatiste.

Still a pretty strong showing against a good team... the best team we've faced this year. Looking forward to Friday, and yes, for sure... come out with the win against Denver and we'd be a hard argument to keep out of the top-10. From what I've seen this year a ranking of 8-12 feels about right. I just don't want to get beat by the Domers like we did in '15.

Honestly, I'm just looking to make both tournaments this year. The B1G looks tough (I don't buy Michigan yet, they've beaten no one but Penn and the Ivy seems like a dumpster fire this year) and I think landing in the top 4 would give us a birth into the NCAAs. From there it is all about matchups.

I do agree that the faceoff X will play a major role on Sunday. That was a glaring hole for Towson. Withers is no schlub, but I don't expect him to be that dominant in most of our highly contested matches.

The Towson FOGO was right around 61% prior to Wednesday. Not sure if it was the competition he faced, 60% is not bad... but Jake made him / them because they switched up, look like clowns... Who goes 11-13 in a game?

Totally agree, not buying TSUN yet. Still too new of a program and I don't buy Paul as a D1 power head coach.

Hope top four B1G get into the tourney... I think at best it's top three most likely two. UMD, State Penn and either Rutgers or us provided everyone holds serve as I would expect. Dark horse is Hop if Petro's kids have a good run in B1G play but I think Hop makes it at the expense of Rutgers or us...

Bad day for B1G LAX in the state of MD. Both Hop and UMD went down which sucks.

Looking forward to Denver on Sunday. Going upstairs to watch the UMD game on the DVR which will be my sixth game of the day as we're hosting a tourney this weekend. God bless lacrosse season.

This has been the single most complete half of lacrosse from this team all year. They came out much quicker, and have played very clean ball.

Tom Carey is having a good game between the pipes, but the D is keeping him really clean.

Withers has lost a couple of draws in a row, but I like what they are doing at FO-X when he doesn't win. They are going after Baptiste very hard. I don't think I've seen a team defend between possession and the touch as hard as they are playing. Looks like Nick emphasized that... you're not going to beat Baptiste in the long run, but you can take away the transition after the draw.

Also looks like Denver is subbing almost full middle lines between D and O which is in our favor of two way players for slowing down transition.

As a team, they are playing with some intensity that I'm sure I've not see from this group.

Half way there...
