Ohio State Men's Ice Hockey (2019 B1G Champions)

We were a little bit fortunate in that the second period "goal" was waved off. We got the benefit of the doubt on that one. Our defense is just outstanding and to have 2 goalies who are so good is fantastic.
They could have let the goal stand, but they made the right call in waving it off. It was definitely interference. And during the game I was talking to my wife about how rare it is for a top team to be able to rotate goalies. Gives us a big advantage.

Big Ten Standings after this weekend.

Ohio State 35 (potential maximum points at season's end: 59)
Minnesota 27 (51)
Notre Dame 25 (46)
Michigan 24 (45)
Sparty 24 (48)
Wisconsin 22 (46)
Ped 20 (44)

Everyone has 24 potential points left except tsun and the domers who only have 21. So if we were to split our last eight games we'd end up with 47 points and even then only Minny and Sparty could overtake us, but Sparty would have to sweep all 8 games, and Minny would need to win 7 of 8. In other words, barring an epic choke by us, we've pretty much wrapped up the B10 title and home ice through the tourney.

USCHO did their first bracketology and came up with this:

This week’s brackets
West Regional (Fargo):
16 American International vs. 1 St. Cloud State
9 Western Michigan vs. 6 Minnesota State

Midwest Regional (Allentown):
13 UMass Lowell vs. 3 Ohio State
12 Clarkson vs. 8 Arizona State

East Regional (Providence):
15 Providence vs. 4 Quinnipiac
10 Cornell vs. 5 Minnesota Duluth

Northeast Regional (Manchester):
14 Bowling Green vs. 2 Massachusetts
11 Northeastern vs. 7 Denver

Still four weeks of hockey to play but, barring Ohio State getting upset in the B1G tourney, it's looking like we're the only conference school making it. I really don't give a shit though. I just want us to win the thing because next year will definitely be a rebuilding year.

So i screwed this up in the above post. I didnt notice that one of Minny's series is with Arizona State and that sparty only has 3 series left.

So the real numbers are this:

Ohio State 35 (potential maximum points at season's end: 59)
Minnesota 27 (45) Magic# 11
Notre Dame 25 (46) Magic# 12
Michigan 24 (45) magic# 11
Sparty 24 (42) magic# 8
Wisconsin 22 (46) magic# 12
Ped 20 (44) magic# 10

And you can come up with a magic number for each team. For instance, it's 11 for Minny. So, this weekend any combination of Ohio State points and lost opportunity points (6 points minus how many they actually get) by Minny. If we sweep and they get swept, that's 12 points, and we eliminate them

In the other games, tsun beat sparty and the pedsters beat Minny, so here's updated standings and magic numbers after tonight.

Ohio State 38 (potential maximum points at season's end: 59)
Minnesota 27 (42) Magic# 5
Notre Dame 25 (46) Magic# 9
Michigan 27 (45) magic# 8
Sparty 24 (39) magic# 2
Wisconsin 22 (43) magic# 6
Ped 23 (44) magic# 7

At this point, it would take the '69 Cubs to.choke this away.

Solid win last night. The team is really clicking right now, and that's with two of their best players injured.

Updated after last night.

Ohio State 41 (potential maximum points at season's end: 59)
Minnesota 27 (42) Magic# 0
Notre Dame 25 (46) Magic# 6
Michigan 30 (45) magic# 5
Sparty 24 (39) magic# 0
Wisconsin 22 (43) magic# 0

Ped 26 (44) magic# 4

We should be able to wrap this up next weekend.
