Game Thread Ohio State @ Iowa, 11/04/17 @ 3:30 (ESPN)

We won't need Dobbins to win this one. And Weber is still important to this team, especially with his pass blocking. Think it would be good for him (and the team) for him have a 100+ yard game.
I don't want the team going into the Iowa game thinking, "Oh, we don't need so-and-so". No let-downs, no taking any opponent for granted. Fucking stomp on them early and keep the foot on their neck...

IMO you don't change a thing... You operate as normal and IF we jump out big then you try to get Weber some touches later in the 2nd half.

I do agree though that this is going to get talked about all week being a trap game and I wouldn't be shocked to see us jump out fairly big by half. To beat this Ohio State team you're going to have to score at least 28 or more (roughly holding us to half our average) to have a chance to beat us. With what Iowa has on offense (shoot even the remaining offenses we play) I'm not sure how they do that. Scoring 28 against this defense will be tough to do if we just make teams earn it and somehow keeping this offense from scoring 28 is going to be a really tall task for someone in the B1G to do.

I see a team when I watch Iowa that's worse then Nebraska on offense (similar style with much less talent at WR) and a defense is solid but at best is Indiana quality (I'd actually take Indiana's defense over theirs). They have a great LB and a good corner but this offense is proving that if you take away one of our WR's with a good corner we will just go somewhere else and get a big play.

I don't think it's wise to tell a bunch of 20 year old guys that they're so good they can go on the road, in conference, and cruise without their leading rusher. It's just asking for a let down.

One thing I am interested to see;

Iowa has the type of front 7 and experienced LB's that teams like MSU used to give Urban's offense fits in the past. I want to see how the offense is able to handle that.
Interesting point. No doubt about that. I don't know much about their DL but they seem to lack the difference makers up front like MSU would've had in the past but I can definitely see the parallels.

Went back and watched the Iowa/PSU game and I think this isn't a good match up for Iowa. The RPO ate them up, they could not protect the flats (get ready for a crap load of quick passes out wide), and Ped constantly got wide on this defense.

Where Iowa had success was their DL had a crap load of tipped balls (98 for Iowa is a good player and is very tall), and overall up the middle played fairly well. For Iowa on offense there really wasn't much good for them other then they had a misdirection that went for a big play and also had a long touchdown on a blown coverage.

I just don't see the sideline to sideline speed for Iowa on defense. Very sound and fundamental but if you get them moving sideways they struggle.

That is exactly what I came here to post. No trap game. Go out and execute. Special teams get it right. Silver Bullets and an offensive freight train.

I just don't see how they contain us horizontally. Great Tackling LB crew and a DL that takes up blocks but boy speed going sideline to sideline isn't the best.

From the games I have seen they run the typical Iowa defense which is rush 4 and drop into zones to keep everything in front of you.

That would have been a problem in the past but it's exactly what Wilson and Day have retooled the offense to beat. Like I said earlier in the thread, if they give JT the same kind of time to find open receivers that McSorely had in the Penn State game then it's hard to imagine how they keep it close.

Iowa is good at KO returns though.....there is that
