Ohio State at Minnesota (official game thread)

Except he isnt nearly the outside shooter that Mehmet Okur is, so he is much less valuable at that position. Right now, he may be a guaranteed first rounder. But he won't jump if he is going to get drafted at 28. He will only go if he will be in the lottery, and he has fallen well out of the lottery at this point. And as Thad will be quick to tell him, imagine how good he will look next season with BJ taking up space inside and allowing KK to showcase his NBA skill set to scouts. I imagine he takes another year in college.

Darn getting drafted at 28 means $4 Million a year and a chance to play with someone like Steve Nash or Chris Paul. Don't imagine too hard, he's likely gone, which is what I've said all year long.

However, he's likely to be drafted much much higher than that (a legit 7 footer with a perimeter game is very rare even today), so he's likelier to go in the top 15....

They need to stop feeling sorry for themselves...THey need to man up and face this adversity, instead of letting it get the best of them...

Why do you think that Thad has to call timeouts and bitch these guys out...They are playing soft, and just aren't mentally tough...

I have said all year and still stick by it talent is there...

So in your opinion, which I respect, it is the mental part of the game where they are lacking. No coaching adjustments need to be made? I just don't understand sometimes I think talent can win out over almost anything. Maybe I am wrong.

I think it is want, heart, determination...Matta has to do more than worry about what set to run or what defense to call...He has to most importantly try and find a way to motivate them...You don't see guys getting rebounds they shouldn't get or getting lose balls they shouldn't get or getting up in someones face on D or ripping the ball away...

Now don't get me wrong I know these guys all want to win, but sometimes you gotta hate to lose more than you like to win...

I honestly have no problem with Matta's coaching...We all know the reasoning behind the zone, length, mismatches that man would put us in, tired legs, foul trouble...Overall other than Iowa and Michigan really putting it to us in the zone and our rebounding out of it, it hasn't been that bad in terms of teams lighting us up...

The problem has been offensively...Now i don't believe the problem here is coaching...First off we haven't been able to put in all the sets, the guys just can't soak them all up for whatever reason, we don't play well off of one another, some don't understand positioning, pinning, rubbing off screens, etc at times...Thad continues to teach and honestly I think that is what has frustrated Butler the most is guys aren't picking things up...We really truly get some good looks that we just don't knock down...Yes we take bad shots at times, but we have missed our fair share of open looks. put backs, 10 foot jumpers etc...

Now we are really dealing with confidence issues and that is really where you need someone to lead by example and pull you out of the funk...No one has done that...

They need to play "hurt" to get tough and kick some butt. I don't know if the reason they don't is Matta's fault or not, but I definitley give him the benefit of the doubt. And this season could all just boil down to the fact that all of the freshmen hit the wall and are just not physically strong enough to pay hard the whole season, thus throwing more load onto all the upper classmen.

No and no.

First, getting drafted at 28 means your going to make $900k, not $4 million. You forget the NBA has contract scales. Oden, first overall, only makes $4.6 million, and Durant only makes $4.1 million. Even at 15, he is only going to be making $1.5 million. Rookies in the NBA don't make nearly the money they do in any other sport.

Second, he really isn't likely to get drafted much higher than late first round. Sure, he had great potential at the beginning of the year, and his game translates so much better to the NBA than it does to college, especially when he doesn't have a post threat to team up with. But after seeing him for a season, team's aren't going to be drafting on that potential. They are going to be drafting on his potential and the results of a full college season. And even with his potential, his results don't justify a first round pick.

and Lighty?

That post made my day...thanks Best for the pick me up.

He will be back. In his last 6 games he is averaging 4.5 points. He is one of many on this team that has the talent but needs to pick up his game.

To compare him to Cook is hilarious. Cook averaged more points and rebounds in less than 20 minutes a game last year than Lighty did this year with over 30 minutes a game. Not to mention that Cook was the 4th option last year behind Lewis, Oden, and Conley. Lighty entered this season as the number 2 option behind Butler.
