Ohio State 92, Memphis 76 (Final)

Don't take it as any kind of slight against the Buckeyes, but the Aggies scared me more. It's only in reference to their style of defense being the oen thing that truly gives Memphis fits. Memphis could very well lose today, I'm not trying to imply that we can't...but when I saw that we were in a bracket with A&M, I said a few things that most message boards won't let you post. :)

Dorsey...I can promise you that Oden won't toss him around. Oden may weigh more, but Dorsey is nothing but muscle.

Frankly I think if A&M won and we were to play the Aggies a lot of us would be worried about 'em too, except for their offense and not their defense, as well as their home-court advantage.

The only thing worse than Memphis playing the "no respect card" was Jokim Noah saying Florida was being disrespected. You're a two seed, Memphis.... a two. Where's the disrespect? Hell, I was listening to the radio the other day (1460) and the question was, which mid major has the best shot .... and they DIDN'T include Memphis... when asked "Why not memphis" the answer was:
Well, they're from a mid major conference, but that team isn't a "mid major"

Wha wha wha, Memphis. Ask Kirk Ferentz how far the US against the WORLD stuff gets you.
:shake:

Of course the team feels disrespected. Every time a commentator talks about them, they always discredit what the team has done this year because we're mired in CUSA, so we're obviosuly not as good as our record implies, we're going to get exposed, and all the other crap they come up with.

Hogan: Buckeyes Have Bulletin Board Material

Mar 24 2007 8:56AM

Friday was a quiet day in San Antonio, but Saturday will be downright nasty as Ohio State and Memphis will do battle in the final game at this site.
The game, at 4:40 p.m. on 10TV, will reveal the first participant slated for Atlanta. During Friday's media session, players apologized to the fans at home for the heart palpitations they've caused the last two games, and said they'd rather not go through that again.
Meeting Memphis on Friday was a hoot. John Calipari is a comedic coach who said there are a few pundits out there who he doesn't want to pick his team to beat Ohio State because "they picked the Germans in World War II."
There is a general feeling of lack of respect among the Tigers and they played that card all day. Joey Dorsey will guard Greg Oden in the post and was outspoken about how he'd handle the task. Good bulletin board material, saying he would have a 20-rebound game and "I haven't seen him on a great player, play good defense."

That is basically no different than Ohio State being viewed as the weakest number one seed.....I mean Memphis is a two seed......someone respects them. The us against the world attitude will only go so far....

TALKING BIG

MEMPHIS STAR: OHIO STATE'S ODEN OVERRATED

March 24, 2007 -- SAN ANTONIO - There's little doubt that, from the vantage point of Memphis center Joey Dorsey, he's in for quite a battle today when he goes against 7-foot wunderkind Greg Oden.
Thus it was no real shocker yesterday when Dorsey, a confident 6-9 junior, anticipated his confrontation with Oden will "be a little like David and Goliath." Only Dorsey believes he's playing the role of David. "It's two great big men going up against each other," said Dorsey, who was just warming up. "I'm an underrated big man and he's a lot overrated as a big man."

Breaking down Memphis

Saturday, March 24, 2007

Record: 33-3, lost to Georgia Tech, Tennessee and Arizona.
Winning streak: 25 games, longest in the nation. Ohio State is next at 20.
Elite Eight again: A No. 2 seed this year, the Tigers, as a No. 1 seed, lost to UCLA, 50-45, in a regional final last season. Their most recent Final Four trip came in 1985.

Regarding the 2-3 Zone Defense:

I know tOSU plays their zone very well, but the Tigers have been killing the 2-3 this season. We're a very patient, good passing team, contrary to running sentiment otherwise. Hunt and Dozier are both very effective when they get in the middle of the zone, and CDR finds his way to the rim in a zone even better than against MtM.

Once again, if you guys zone us, this game WILL come down to the outside shot, and we're a lot better there than you think.

I can't wait.

I must confess, I don't watch a lot of national media talking heads, and when I do, I don't give a rats ass what they're saying. In any case, I don't think it's Ohio State or their fans doing the disrespecting (and no, I don't suggest you were arguing that)

If true, this is a case in point as to why I don't put much emphasis on the talking heads.... I was made to understand the book on Memphis was to slow em down and make em play a half-court game.

Well let me tell you, the media definitely thinks the SEC is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Basically if your not in the SEC your in a weak conference and your not shit.

If you didn't watch our team much this season, then I understand you why you'd feel that way.

By the way, I read where OSU's AD was on the selection committee and assigned to CUSA, meaning CMEMPHIS, so I think Thad and Co. will have a much better understanding than other teams have had.

It all comes down to execution, but I kind of liked teams not knowing much about our players (esp. the bench) and our system.

By the way, you certainly would rather play a half court game vs. UofM, but that doesn't mean zone is the better option.

If we make this a high scoring game, I think we win. Other than that, rebounding and D will determine the winner.

I think scenario 2 is much more likely.
