I'm sure it's not any kind of rule, but it's a good lesson for them. Life is full of moments like that - they don't always happen on national TV, but you shouldn't get to reap the benefits of having your greatest achievements take place on a stage like that and get to hide away when things don't go well. It's a lesson in responsibility that will serve them well later in life.
