i would like to bring up something that i have read on a couple tennessee boards: the "questionable" call on tennessee when conley drove to the bucket with under ten seconds left. let's say that there wasn't a foul and that the refs never called a foul. guess who ended up getting the ball off of conley's miss? oden. guess who was between him and the basket, which he was practically under? nobody. guess what happens when oden is next to the basket and there is nobody between him and it?

i think we all know.

Reminds me of the play in a Knicks-Bulls playoff series in the 9os. Hue Hollins famously called a touch fall on Pippen, whose hand hit the (top-of-the-key) jump shooter at the base of his hand after the ball was released. It should have been a no-call, but without the call, the ball bounced softly off the fromt of the rim, where Patrick Ewing was going up square with both hands, ready to tip-dunk the ball with about 1 second left. No Bulls player would have been able to stop the dunk, even with a hard foul. Nobody ever talked about that, but the Bulls would have lost that game without the weak foul call on Pippen.

Some folks always want to blame a ref for a bad call that decides a game. The Vandy fans actually have a completely legitimate case, but nobody else in this tournament has had a game decided on a bad call, as far as I'm concerned .

Big year dissolves in dismay for Vols

Associated Press
Knoxville, Tenn.- Start with the overexposed image of Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl cheering for the Lady Vols with his chest painted orange.
Add his blinding orange jacket, an undefeated record at home and wins over some of the best teams in the country despite having one of the youngest teams Pearl has ever coached. Don't forget women's-coach- turned-cheerleader Pat Summitt singing "Rocky Top."
This was the Volunteers' action-packed second season under Pearl. It ended a few days short of making more school history.

Late mistakes will haunt Vols

By CHRIS LOW
The Tennessean

KNOXVILLE - There was no hiding the hurt late Thursday night in the University of Tennessee's locker room. The Volunteers' second-half collapse was painful enough in blowing a 20-point lead to No. 1-ranked Ohio State and seeing their Elite Eight dreams squashed under the weight of too many missed free throws, too many missed defensive assignments and too many situations where they simply didn't get it done.
