Ohio State 79, #21 Syracuse 65 (Final)

They sure looked like a top 25 team tonight - a few lapses, but they really looked great the the later part of the first half, and weathered the SU run at the beginning of the 2nd half well. I love the combination of the prolific frosh with Butler, Hunter & Twig.
:oh:

Thad and the players adjusted to the zone very well, we struggled in the beginning but after that, it was all Buckeyes. I am not going to say "we get no respect" because it's November, not March, but if they play like this the scarlet and gray will be impressing quite a few people in the tourney.

he's from Greece. also played on their national team, i believe

Not to beat a dead horse here but Kosta Koufos is NOT from Greece. His parents are Greek and met at Ohio State. KK was born and raised in Canton, Ohio. That's nowhere near Greece.

The announcer at halftime was stating that he isn't as well known as the American players because the European players tend to fly under the radar until they get here. Well, that would be true, except that we're talking about a born and raised American player here that just happens to have a "European" type of game.

Man, once we started dropping the middle man from the top of the zone onto the high post, the 'Cuse interior offense dried up. They were blowing the zone up early until the zone started to focus on the high post.

Speaking of the high post and blowing up the zone......someone among you, I'm not positive who, has been begging to see the high-low with O and KK. Damned fine suggestion.

Man, I wish Twiggy had better hands.

PJ Hill at least made his (albeit short-lived) stint eventful. :p

Solid win and I'm very impressed with the offensive progression they showed this evening. :oh:

Yes, back to the game. This looks like a very, very solid squad.

David Lighty was in foul trouble in the first half and Evan Turner contributed major minutes and did very well. The only problem was that Twigs couldn't catch the ball when he first came in. When he got his hands back he played fine.

diebler easily having his best game......doing a great job penetrating when they step out and making good decesions, with exception to his last shot of the first half where he should have recognized the clock

Evan Turner is playing great....reminds me of Lighty in a lot of ways

Enjoy Koufos now because every broadcaster in the nation will be pimpin him rather shortly and during every game

Hunter plays so smart and under control, what a find he was

Butler controls the game very well too....I think I can notice the weight he lost, a little quicker and seems to have great stamina, even at this early point of the year

Terwilliger is still Terwilliger I guess....you know what you are going to get, he'll give you his all but some decesions defensively as well as offensively make you wonder if he's ever played ball before.....dude should know not to leave your feet on perimeter shooters at this point in his career...I thought Matta was going to walk out on the court and choke him at one point

Really pleased with the effort in the first half, showed toughness by coming back the way they did

Let's see how they respond to the Syracuse run that will happen at the 15:00 - 10:00 mark

Hunter is an exceptional player, so under control at all times and a great inside/outside presence. Diebler had a very nice game and you can tell he's still adjusting. On many shots, you can tell he feels like he has a wide-open look and athletic players are capable of getting in his grill by the time of his release......he'll adjust very quickly IMO

Evan Turner is Lighty from last year IMO...under control, great D, and finishes plays well...he'll continue to refine his outside shot

Terwilliger played a nice second half, after a poor first half. Nice shooting and rebounding. Again, you know you're going to get his all, you just hope he's going to play a smart, under control game.

Butler, such a nice player. Great shooter, and controls the game so well. He's very underrated.

Koufos will be fun to watch. Too bad he's gone after this year. Talk about a quiet 24. So smooth and a quietly good defender. The anti-Terwilliger in a lot of ways. Doesn't leave his feet on ball fakes, and forces players to make shots. Positions himself well for rebounds.

This team should make a good run at the Big-10. They have all the parts and will continue to get better. Michigan Stae and Indiana will be difficult but I think we can easily progess to the best team in the Big 10 very shortly.

I'm not great with the technical aspects of basketball (yet), but I know this is what happened:

We went into MSG and beat Syracuse without too much trouble. I do know that's impressive!

And how exciting was that first half? Both teams were making some great shots.

As previously noted, it was our experience advantage we had over the Orangemen tonight that won this game. Now we can say that Flynn was horrible. Which is a bad term to use since he simply played like a freshman, but a Durant or an Oden he isn't.
I can't really single out one player and that's good news since they all played well. The amount of improvement I saw between the last game and this one was a tremendous leap forward.
This is going to be a fun year.

I didn't notice Lighty too much during the game. When are we playing Texas A&M?
Lighty had a quiet game, but when 4 Bucks score in double figures, not much is left for him to do. He played his usual solid game.

The NIT Championship is Friday at 7 ET.

edit- watching the Great Alaska Shootout between scUM and Butler and right before half is a crowd shot of 2 Buckeye fans, one in an AJ Hawk jersey. Nice to see Buckeye fans in Alaska. Go Bucks!
