Tennessee got beat last night by Vanderbilt on a last second shot. Check out the box score. Tennessee started 4 guards and a 6' 7'' forward. Anyone else see an obvious miss match at the center position?

Foster's last-second putback snaps Vols' nine-game win streak

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Volunteers found out that 3.7 seconds is too much time to leave an opponent.
Shan Foster scored on a putback as time expired, and Vanderbilt snapped No. 16 Tennessee's nine-game winning streak by upsetting the Vols 82-81 on Wednesday night.

Chris Lofton led all scorers with 29 points for Tennessee, including 6-of-7 from 3-point range. But he didn't score after his layup tied the game at 71 with 4:18 to go. Ramar Smith finished with 17, and Crews had 10.
JaJuan Smith, who had been averaging 15.2 points, matched his season low with six points for the Vols, who visit No. 5 Ohio State on Saturday.

it will be an interesting game, considering that tennessee's offense is built on exactly what our defense has been struggling (or as namath says, struhguhling) to stop: perimeter screens and quick rotations to good to excellent perimeter shooters. lofton is a one-man wrecking crew, and smith can light up the arc, too.

as i mentioned in the wisky game thread, i expect the crowd to be very loud and very rambunctious. though the team may not look at tennessee any differently, i'm sure that the crowd will be thirsting for tremendous pain to be inflicted on an sec team. if there are any vols who are reading this and going to the game, i highly recommend that you do not do the gator chomp nor mention sec speed. it could get... no... it will get very ugly if you do. :chompy: that being said, most vols i've come across are good fans. i expect a good match between two quality teams.

i wonder if ben martin will show. :biggrin:

yep. it would be nice for the team to get a single quality win against a strong ooc team. i won't at all be surprised if this is oden's breakout offensive game. the vols don't have anyone who can match up with oden. this game sets up for a stat line of 25, 15, and 6 for greg.

OSU better stay out on Lofton on Saturday. The kids is a helluva scorer. Making 48% of his threes this season. Made 43.7% last season, and 46.5% the year before. Gets to the line over 5 times per game, too.

If Kam Taylor can wreak havoc on the OSU D, Lofton could have a field day. Fortunately for OSU, the Vols don't have anyone like Tucker to draw the attention. Watch out for Wayne Chism. 6'9" freshman, averaging 9 points and 5 boards in just 17 minutes per game. And is willing to shoot the 3-ball. Wouldn't be surprised to see Bruce Pearl use him to get Oden away from the basket.

Should be a good one.

They didn't play zone against Florida. Oden kept getting pulled away from the basket. The perimeter D was still terrible. I kept wondering why the hell they didn't go to a zone in that game. They have looked much better on D in the zone, especially when they extend it. Seems like early in games they don't get out quickly enough on 3 point shooters. I think you are correct that Matta prefers an aggressive man defense, but you have to take advantage of having a shot blocker like Oden in the middle.

I hope Oden becomes more aggressive on the offensive side of the ball. It's bound to happen some time, he needs to move around without the ball and aggressively attack the basket when he is taking his shots. There is no reason for him to not dunk when he is 2-3 feet away.

I haven't really noticed a lot of zone this season. The extended 1-3-1 with Hunter at the top of the key for awhile against someone (can't recall who) and then a lot of zone at Wisconsin. Could be I'm just not paying attention. I've got a lot of other things on my mind, like saving the world from global warming.

Yes Greg Oden will play a factor for the outcome of the game, like he does in every game, but IMO, he needs to be scoring a little more. He only had 10 points in the last game. If we want to be winning down the stretch against top of the line opponents, we need him to score more and be more of an offensive threat than he already is.
Thats my opinion. we need him to be scoring 20-25 points a game if possible.

We will be ok . Remember these guys have only had a few games together. They have played some of the most talented teams in the nation and haven't done too badly.
The things they need to address will be worked on and improved.
Let them get to the point where they know they can play with the big boys and they will start to kick butt.
Patience my friends.
We need a win to get the taste of this week out of my mouth
