Ohio State's Dallas Lauderdale scores between Penn State's Brandon Hassell, left, and Jamelle Cornley.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Bryce Jordan Center is a big blue cavern for most Penn State men's basketball games, and it was a bigger one last night. The curtains that usually drape the unpopulated upper deck were pulled up so as not to create an embarrassment on ESPN's national telecast. "It's empty," Ohio State guard Jamar Butler said. "It's hard to get yourself ready to go. You have to do it yourself."
It took the Buckeyes 35 minutes to do it last night. But do it they did, finally finding the energy on defense to hold Penn State scoreless for more than 10 minutes and using the resulting 16-0 run to carry them to a 68-56 victory in a venue in which Ohio State teams have had some strange experiences through the years.
Butler scored 20 points and fellow senior Matt Terwilliger was a difference-maker off the bench for the second straight game as the Buckeyes (15-6, 6-2) stayed on the heels of the four teams in front of them in the Big Ten standings. Indiana is 6-0 in the conference and Michigan State, Purdue and Wisconsin are 6-1.

I didn't think we got out on their shooters fast enough in the first half which caused for the game to be close. I think in the second half we extended our defense more and put more pressure on their three-point shooting which they were almost totally relying on.

I was very pleased once again with Butler. As has been stated, I really don't know where this team would be without him this season.

I do not think Lighty played particularly well after the first 10 minutes. At the beginning of the game, he seemed to take the ball to the basket a little more but then stopped doing that. I don't think Thad was very pleased with his defense however he did have some cheap fouls called on him.
I don't understand why they don't get the ball more to Hunter. He has a nice little jump shot but hardly sees the ball on offense. I loved his defensive presence last night.

I was happy to see KK taking more shots closer to the basket even if they did not drop. Hopefully, this is a sign to come and if the shots fall he will be that much more of a offensive threat. He didn't seem to play with the same passion as he did against Illinois but I don't think the team as a whole played with much passion until they realized they were in a game in the second half.

I didn't understand Turner. Sometimes he would get the ball on the wing and would not even look at J. D. in the corner or KK who had pretty good post position. He just threw the ball back to Butler to start the offense. I don't know maybe I was missing something.

I will admit that this team is young but how long are we going to say that. The season is half over. These guys need to play hard from the beginning and realize that each night they're going to go up against a team that is capable of beating them. They have to tell themselves they are no longer in high school. They should be removed from that.

Overall, a road win in the Big 10 is always good. Let's just hope they take care of business on the road Saturday and play from start to finish.

true, someone answer a question for me-which shoulder does kosta make his move with? anyone notice a pattern? which foot does he pivot on? pattern? scouted...

this team needs more sandpaper and more glue...

Left shoulder should be left foot but unsure... could be right foot:!

Alternatively, last year we may have been spoiled by three of the best freshmen to play college ball at OSU in a long time.

Twenty games in they have learned a lot, but I think they are still young. I think the leap between first and second year comes because the youngsters have time to reflect during the off-season. Right now, it's moving so fast, it can be difficult to assimilate learning and adapt your play.

So, we may be calling them young all the way to the Sweet 16:wink2:.

I have noticed that Twigs is doing yeoman's work when he is in there playing. He is a solid role player for us who needs more recognition than what he gets. He isn't spectacular but he does what Matta wants him to do and does it well.

Yup I made mention of this in my post game comments...He is understanding his role very well, and providing a good spark off the bench...

yup, matt will never be a superstar, hes a kid who knows his role and usually plays within in it. that being said his role is not glorious and i can say this with confidence, matt will be missed next year...

Agreed. He stole so many minutes for greg last year (and did so well), and has taken on another role for the team this year.

pay attention young grasshopper...
also, where does he always end up?
OK old master.:) It must be just the opposite or a mix of both of them. I will pay more attention.

He usually ends up further away from the basket than when he tried the shot. I don't know where is 40?:wink2:

40 is right here...

As for KK, he seems to turn to over his left shoulder, not sure on his footwork, but you could see on his one step thru he had in the first half that he was off balance, but he was able to make it...

So I am assuming that JO is talking about him going over his left shoulder and using his right foot as his pivot foot, which he should be using his left, well that is what would feel comfortable...but that is what he said you need to pay attention...I will check it out on tape when I get home and see if I can see what JO is talking about...
