Ohio State 68 Penn State 56 (Final)

Twigs has definately stepped his game up as BestBuck mentioned. He was the most physical "big" we had tonight, and although I often hate his decesions, ne normally plays without fear, and that's exactly what you need in a game against an inferior opponent.

Kosta didn't look exceptionally great tonight. I think he is developing before our eyes, but he continues to play passively and soft. I can just picture Coach Thad and co. beating the shit out of Kosta with padded poles doing the George Mikan drill if you get my drift. Kosta is incredibly skilled, but also out of place at the college level. It will be interesting to see what happens at the end of the year.

I thought Jamar played one of his best games this season. Don't kid yourselves......it is going to be a huge challenge to replace his leadership and scoring ability next year. When our offense is stagnant and nobody wants to take the shot, who steps up this year? Who will step up next year?

I thought Lighty played extremely well also. Smooth stroke going tonight and as usual brought great defense.

I was impressed with the ability to win this game in the seond half, and really clamp down and force bad shots in the 2nd half. We really tightened up and dominated that half.

Good things for everyone all the way around...

Butler gave a great all around effort, got his points, got guys involved, and played well...

Lighty played better early in the game, struggled some in the second half and that is why we saw Diebler for an extended stretch...Nice to see him attack the hole tho...

Turner didn't have a great scoring game, but his all around game was on full display tonight with his final line of 5 pts, 7 rebounds, 7 assts, 1 steal, and 2 blocks...Kid did a lot...

Hunter continues his solid play...He got us started in the second half and was altering shots down low and was on the boards.

KK didn't see a lot of minutes in the second half, I think because Twig was playing so effectively and KK was struggling to put the ball in the hole, but early in the second half he was doing a great job of getting position we just weren't getting him the ball as much as I thought we should have...Bad shooting night for KK in terms of the shots he ususally makes, but if he has a good shooting night he goes for 15 or so on the type of shots he was taking...Seemed to play more in his area, I think he drifts more against man defense when they are pushing him out moreso than against zone when they are playing more of an area.

Twig had a huge game, a huge dunk and a huge 3. He has been very efficient in his minutes he has been playing as of late, and has been effective on the boards as well...Really providing spark off the bench...

Diebs played a solid all around game as well...He was 1-4 from behind the arc, but looked confident in shooting them, especially the one he missed and KK got the rebound...This has all been beaten to death...Just time to sit back and let Diebs start getting hot...They were all over him in the zone and it was creating passing lanes down low to Twig, KK, and Hunter for easy baseline jumpers and a couple dunks, also allowed Butler to get a couple pull up jumpers as his guy didn't think about helping...Also the charge he took was a big play...

Dallas played solid in his minutes...Had a huge put back dunk and was really pushing guys out...

Overall once again it comes down to us being able to rebound...They were getting second chances alot again, after us playing very good defense...

People were claiming that they were making all their 3, but we ended up holding them to 28% from behind the arc...

Overall a very good solid methodical win and a confidence booster from this team...

Sloppy play at the very end, when trying to run the clock out...I thought we should of went with Diebler on the offensive end a little early because he brings another free throw shooter on the floor...Couple bad turnovers at the end, but they did not hurt us...

A while back I wondered when we would see a game where everyone clearly contributed.
cbf40 - your summary nailed it - this was an all round team performance and ...
Everyone had points.

Team continues to grow and the schedule - though with clear challenges in it - is favorable.

Buckeyes wear out Nittany Lions Butler scores 20 points while Koufas adds 10

STATE COLLEGE, PA.: For Ohio State, playing better defense meant bending more at the knees.
Buckeyes coach Thad Matta thought his team wasn't getting at opposing shooters fast enough during the game, so he said he told them to ''bend their knees.''
Penn State had a second-half scoring drought of 10-plus minutes and Jamar Butler's 20 points led Ohio State offensively in a 68-56 win Tuesday night to snap a three-game road losing streak.
The Buckeyes (15-6, 6-2 Big Ten) heeded Matta's advice to close in quicker on the ball.
''You got to get there and move, and if your knees aren't bent, you're not going to move,'' Matta said.

Second-half surge carries Ohio State to men's basketball win over Penn State

Wednesday, January 30, 2008 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
State College, Pa.- In side a half- empty arena in the moun tains of Pennsylvania, Ohio State senior point guard Jamar Butler couldn't escape that nagging feeling. This is how men's basketball goes here, when Penn State teams dwarfed in talent scuttle their way into competitive games.
"It always feels the same here, I don't know why," Butler said. "They never go away."
And then, the Nittany Lions vanished Tuesday night. They were up by four points six minutes into the second half and then entered a 10-minute stretch when playing zero-on-five would have proved as effective.

Butler leads Buckeyes over Penn State
UPDATE: 9:13 PM, Tuesday, January 29, 2008

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) ? Jamar Butler's sweet shooting and Penn State's second-half cold spell helped Ohio State win on the road.

Butler scored 20 points and the Nittany Lions went 10-plus minutes of the second half without a bucket in the Buckeyes' 68-56 victory on Tuesday night.

Seven-foot freshman center Kosta Koufas added 10 points as Ohio State (15-6, 6-2 Big Ten) wore down pesky Penn State (10-10, 2-6) late and snapped its three-game road losing streak.

Koufas converted an offensive rebound before Butler hit a long jumper just before the shot clock expired to give the Buckeyes a 47-44 lead with about 11 minutes left.

After the Nittany Lions' Brandon Hassell had his shot blocked, Butler hit another tough shot ? a 3 from the wing with a defender's hand in his face ? to extend the lead to 52-44 with nine minutes left.
