'White Out' returns

Ohio State will deal with a familiar tactic today in Happy Valley.

By Beth Hudson | Of The Morning Call October 27, 2007 Ohio State junior tight end Rory Nicol said the formula for silencing an energetic, hostile crowd -- like the one the Buckeyes will face tonight at Beaver Stadium -- is simple.

''We can't have any bad plays,'' Nicol said. ''We can't have negative rushing plays, sacks or interceptions. We can't turn the ball over. You sort of have to take [the fans] out of it.''

It's easy in theory, anyway.

It?s not fair to compare PSU and Ohio State

Ohio State has emerged as Penn State?s biggest rival, at least in football. And why not? The series is tied 11-11. Ohio State has scored 395 points in the series, Penn State 394. The teams have split the past two games. Before last season, the previous five games were decided by an average of 5.4 points. Both programs have won at least 785 games.

Buckeyes have a lot to lose, a lot to prove

Big match-up against Penn State may be what OSU needs to regain people's faith in them.

There are many points to consider as the Buckeyes put their national-title aspirations on the line tonight at Penn State (8 p.m. ABC):
? What's the shelf life for a BCS championship game debacle? More than 10 months, apparently.
The No. 1 Buckeyes haven't been getting much love from the national media, most of whom will still consider them frauds if they beat the 24th-ranked Nittany Lions in one of the most uninviting venues in college football.

A position-by-position analysis of today's game

Quarterback
OSU's Todd Boeckman has led the Big Ten in passing efficiency
all season, while counterpart Anthony Morelli is just eighth.
Edge: OSU.
Running backs
Penn State suspended first-string tailback Austin Scott three weeks ago, but fifth-year senior Rodney Kinlaw, who has rushed for 728 yards with a 5.2 average this season, was poised to take over the starting job anyway. Edge: OSU.

rewatched the 2005 game last night....psu won because 1. troy smith was as rusty as a gate 2. robinson hurt osu more with his feet than arm...3. hunt was a chain mover..

i dont think this psu team has the same D as 2005 and i know they are several notches down offensively..

Not to mention Paul Posluszney & Tamba Hali on the defense were BIG factors for sure 2 years ago!
I'm sure my spelling was off on those, but you get the picture.:)

While Penn State has held opponents to 80 yards per game on the ground, as bukIpower stated they haven't been all that stellar against someone (Michigan, Illinois) with a solid running back:

Florida Atlantic ... -3 yards
Notre Dame .......... 0 yards
Buffalo ............ 56 yards
Michigan .......... 166 yards
Illinois .......... 216 yards
Iowa ............... 48 yards
Wisconsin .......... 87 yards
Indiana ............ 68 yards

In all fairness they did hold PJ Hill well under his average.

But thats just picking nits.

I dont think Ohio State should have to worry to much about Morelli hurting them with his feet

Joe Paterno fought the good fight, but now it's time to say goodbye, says Bill Livingston

Joe Paterno is 80 years old. He will be 81 this Decem ber.
"How old is that?" a YouTube spot asks Penn State students. It turns out JoePa is older than Velcro, the jet engine and Scotch tape, but only a frisky lad, frolicking through the fields of autumn, compared to the longevity of tinfoil and Band-Aids.
I first met him in 1974. I think he is one of the two indisputably great men I have known in college sports. North Carolina men's basketball coach Dean Smith is the other. (I only met Woody Hayes once, and then only briefly.)

Mike Poorman's writing lacks originality and reflects the first four letters of his last name.

The comparisons (or contrasts) are a "poor" attempt at distracting readers from the real task at hand, the football game and teams that are facing each other today.

Who cares if JoePa chased a ref and Woody punched a player (he was probably from PA)

Who cares if their coach rolls up his pants (its probably to catch the poop from rolling down his leg)

Who cares if one of their graduates made a lot of money on Wall Street (he probably lost it all the next day investing in Enron).

Who cares if their reknown Pennsylvania statesmen include Ben Franklin and William Penn, We have Columbus, Ohio discovered by Chris Columbus in 1492 (As he appoached the shores of this great land the scout said: I can see Ohio, Columbus).

Who cares ... well this could on.

Here are few Mr Poorman forgot to mention: Two football teams played their hearts out today and the one with the biggest heart prevailed. Ohio State showed up both offensively and defensively to completely dominate the game today.
The Nittany Lions were out-coached by the coach wearing the red sweater vest today. Finally, Block O Pizza was delivered within 60 minutes today. Tony, JoePa and his team didn't get any.

Go Bucks :osu:
