How many times during Tressel's first four years was OSU capable of lighting up the scoreboard? Tressel had the horses last year, and rode them hard in many games with scoring margins of 23, 30, 21, 31, 41, 44, and 44.

Two WRs that are 90% of what we just lost to the draft and a possibly improved running game, coupled with a defense that should be stringer than last year's, should calm the worriers down somewhat...

Robo is 90% of Ginn, no doubt. He's actually a better route runner and just as good a ball-catcher...he just doesn't have that unworldly Ginn speed. And I would put Hartline at 90% of Gonzo...85% at worst.

You act like we have some sort of huge drop off in talent at WR with the departures of Ginn and Gonzo, and we don't.

Well isnt that kinda what made Ginn special? I definately like Robo though, he just seems to be in the right place at the right time (PSU on the long play, and then the long play against Michigan where Hall went diving over Robiskie's back).

Robo, to me, is more like a Jenkins clone, big physical receiver with decent speed.

Ginn just terrified people, and backed it up by blowing by some of the best DBs in college football.

And Hartline doesn't equal Gonzo.

Small, hasn't done much, yet.

90%? Naaa! More like 75-80%
Good, but not 90% of Ginn and Gonzo!

Mili, I understand what you are saying, but I think your answer feeds right into Omaha's question. Not to label JT as conservative, rather like you said, he will play to his strengths. The last 2 years his strengths were that he had an eventual Heisman QB, among many other weapons, namely 2 first-round WR's to throw to, and a not-too-shabby NFL caliber 4th round RB. I think this year we will return to a more conservative approach, due to the inexperience at the QB position. So to say that the past 2 seasons had nothing at all to do with Smith at QB, I think you have answered both ways.

God only knows how much I hope and pray they equal "90%" of Ginn and Gonzo. Do I think they could prove to be that good, sure. Do I think there is NO WAY you can make that claim at this point, yes. They haven't been the focal point of opposing secondary yet nor do they have a Heisman winner throwing the ball. Robo hasn't shown he is 90% of a Top 10 pick IMO nor has Hartline shown me he's 90% of a 1st Round Draft Pick.

Point-by-point:

1. Yes, I can claim Robo is 90% of Ginn because he is a better WR yet not as fast. In fact, if Ginn wasn't so damn fast I could easily claim that Robo's route-running and pass-catching negates Ginn's speed.

2. Yes, I can claim Hartline is 90% (maybe 85%) of Gonzo. Hartline has superb speed like Gonzo, and like Ginzo had a knack for finding the opening when he was in. He also made some tough catches. He doesn't quite have Gonzo's unreal cutting ability (at least not that I saw), but he's not as much of a dropoff as many think.

3. Just because neither has "shown" you they aren't 10% of Ginn or Gonzo doesn't mean they aren't. And, the fact that many teams (as do many of BP members) expect us to run more this year because of Beanie and us having a new QB, that will in turn open up the passing game (and thus giving Robo and Hartline more area) whereas last year everyone in the solar system was expecting us to air it out and had schemed to slow it down.

#1) Yes, he may have shown in those areas he is superior to Ginn, but he still hasn't done it as a #1 WR.

#2) See point #1 but replace #1 with #2.

#3) I'm aware it works both ways, but think that you using 10% to make that point is you being a bit of a smartass (but then again you wouldn't be Milli would you? :wink: ). It's REASONABLE to assume they'll be better than 10%, whereas it's not nearly as resonable for the 90% figure to be tossed around. I also dont think the passing game is going to be much better for our WR's for two key reasons. One, yes when we lined up in a 5 WR set they knew it was pass but most teams also dont have the depth to stick a quality guy on Robo or Hartline (last year). Both situations (this year and last year) should prove to have benefits for the WR's. I'm sure we both also know the benefit of having a Heisman winner back there as well.

Lastly though, I want to stress I dont think they CAN'T, I just think that any talk in the summer of them being 90% of a tandem that both went in the 1st Round is a bit much.

1). Just how does his not playing in the "#1 WR" position (please tell me on the field where that is) effect his abilities? He's going to run the same routes and make the same cuts regardless if he's the primary WR in the route/coverage or the #3 guy.

3.) No, I actually think that Robo/Hartline are 90% or so as good as Ginn/Gonzo...
