Game Thread Ohio State 33, Washington 14 (Final)

I should add something. The sports pundits have provided plenty of material about Ohio State being "average" this week. The team will not be unaware that they and the Big Ten are getting no respect. I think that they will want to send the press and the Pac10 a message this week.
I agree that the team knows it is viewed as average. And it is mostly on the offensive side of the ball. The O line for example knows that it has to step up. Personally , I think what the O line needs is a leader, someone to kick butt and weld them together. The teamwork within an O line is crucial to its success. So as attributed to Burton they have to get it going and this week would be a great time for it.

with the 3:30 start though that mean the boys will feel like its 11:30 and we've been playing all our games at 12 so we'll be fine in that department. If it was Noon start I'd be worried.

I think you're confused in the time zone department. The game is a 3:30 EST start (12:30 Washington time), so they won't be feeling like it's 11:30 Ohio time, but rather 3:30 Ohio time (which will be the actual time).

our defense is playing top 10 caliber football. our offense needs to catch up. beanie needs to pull his head out of his ass before the third quarter saturday. we need more perimeter runs and more creative play calling this week.:oh:

If OSU comes out looking to establish the run, I fear that Beanie could get frustrated early. The weakness in Washington's D is the secondary. I think OSU has to get started through the air before we can expect much room for Wells to run. Pass setting up the run in this case.

For the last 4-5 years, I've noticed a lackluster opening at home; ala N. Illi. etc... Whatever the case, I hope for a breakout game Sat.! Barto, Boone, Rehring, Cordle, and Person have a solid foundation & I refuse to believe that they won't gel.... With Small returning I hope that Boeckman tears up the soft Husky D backs! Last year, Texas identified the core of the team. This year Washington will do just fine!
Bucks: 28 huskys: 10

Fine. Then that's more incentive for Beanie to get to the second level and run on Warshington's secondary.

lol I guess I out thought myself (I thought only Charlie Weiss could do that)

Weiss doesn't out think himself, all he's thinking about is where to get the next cheeseburger.

Seriously though, Willingham has done a lot for that program, I expect our defense to hold them we just can't have any turnovers this game, if we hold onto the rock and keep it low scoring this game shouldn't be too much of an issue. I am already getting shit for the pac-10 fans at work, so hopefully we go in and walk out with the win, then Monday people can just decide that Missagain sucks and it's not the whole Big-10.

True...of course I want OSU to win for OSU, but a big part of it now is just so the Big Ten doesn't slump in with the Sun Belt, MAC, and WAC. If OSU, PSU, and Wisconsin falter to lower teams, the Big Ten could be in a serious dark age. Beyond that, my keys for the game:

- Special teams: I start with special teams for a reason. We always seem to be in need of field goals on the road and we can't let them make a big return because I am fairly confident in our D to seriously limit Washington. Good news is our coverage and kicking has been excellent thus far.

- Develop more chemistry/identity: We are young and it can be overcome but we have yet to gain an identity. This is our first big test and on the road, so it's vital that the young guys settle in and build some chemistry with the rest of the team.

- The offense needs to improve: This is obvious but I really think it is just little things holding us back. The talent is there on the OL but it just seems they need to gel and execute. This OL will be very good I believe but it's a work in progress. The RB stable is full of talent and the OL needs to help them more, but Beanie has missed some holes and MoWells just isn't suited to run in the middle. Saine seems to be doing a great job of getting what he can. Hartline and Robiskie are solid but I really believe that Torrence could be a difference maker once he picks up the game. Sanzenbacher needs to pick it up after last week and Washington was a nonfactor, so he will need to step up as well. Boeckman did not look nearly as posied as Week 1 and this will be a big test for Todd, though I think he is capable to get it done.

- Overall: We are a young team heading across the country to face a good team. I expect to see some deer-in-the-headlights looks and it's all about how we handle adversity because I fully anticipate all we can handle. I'm really having trouble trying to take a stab at who is going to win this game but I'm going with OSU in a close one.

- Prediction: OSU 17 Washington 14

We have a young team, but husky fans have been waiting a long time again for games like this so the stadium will be LOUD and the fans will make a difference, husky stadium is a hard place to play...

that being said most husky fans arent as ignorant as many on the other forums ...probably the 12 year olds talking sh*** like someone mentioned. Believe me we know you have a good team and arent underestimating your team or defense. I think it will be a great game
