Game Thread Ohio State 33, Washington 14 (Final)

The thing that is so encouraging is we just beat a borderline top 25 team in a tough environment by 19 points and we still have so much room for improvement. This team has a legitimate shot at going unbeaten if Todd can avoid slow starts.
After watching OSU and looking at their schedule, and then watching Florida absolutely dismantle Tennessee, I started thinking ...

Nahh. Wisky, PSU, and UM will all be tough. But the Badgers are trying really, really hard to not look very impressive right now.

Agreed, they are struggling. I could not belive Citadel did that well against them today. I don't know much about their team this year, but I doubt they should be playing at Top 10 team that close.

Did anyone see much of the Michigan game? I wonder if UM improved that much defensively......or is ND really THAT bad?

ND is THAT bad. scUM's defense is trash, for ND not to score in that game is pathetic. Maybe they will give Weis another 10 year extension for this great performance so far this year. :slappy:

UW could do absolutely nothing against the draw play.... big indication that blocking was excellent today.

Our big guys on the O-Line controlled that game. Especially in the second half. They were just controlling Washington's d-line and pushing them around at will. It's a beautiful thing, when your o-line starts controlling the game, you know you are on your way to a win. VERY impressive today, the running game was just stout. Boeckman made some good throws, especially the one to Robo for the long score, and Hartline made some good catches too.

And what else can be said about the D? Laurinaitis just picked up where he left off last year, reminded me a lot of his game against Texas last year.

Just a great, inspiration win for this young team. I share with the excitement of the rest of you and JT.

:oh:

Great win today for a team that needed some form of confirmation...

However..

1) Washington showed that the Cinderella slipper didn't fit...they beat 'Cuse (ugh) and an overrated Boise State team. While Washington was the fashionable pick, they still are not what we are about to see out of the top Big Ten teams.

2) The defense was opportunistic and showed improved tackling...however the freelancing in the rush lanes opened some lanes for an adequate QB. Lockler is limited...others in the path are not.

3) The Kickoff team came up with the back breaking play...besides that, they were subpar.

4) Pretorius cannot shank gimme points....then blocked PATs/FGs are 100% unacceptable.

5) Boeckman...too inconsistent. Great at times, horrid at times. No comment, but all of our minds are wandering towards a certain pup on the sideline. Todd came out strong in the second half and he deserves major props for that...but still, the WOW factor has not been there.

6) Beanie and the Oline...pretty good all day. Some spots of lackadaisical lapses...but overall, a solid day.

Just some quick thoughts...

edit: stupid grammar

To that, you should add that the special team snapping needs a LOT of practice. It was bad on punts and FG/XPs all day.

On the blocked FG, I 'll give Pretorius the benefit of the doubt because of the bad snap, but you're right.

I don't know that we'll see Henton to the 1st string but if RS keeps looking shaky and Henton keeps looking cool (even on that 15 yard run he just seemed so relaxed even as he's blowing by people) he'll be the 2nd teamer sooner than later. I don't think TB wows anyone, but a few more road games he should have those jitters out (hopefully before Happy Valley at night). He can be a solid player for us, but the coaches and Todd need to find a way to get him relaxed to start out games.

There's some talk about having the best 3 backs in the nation, but you take a look at OU here with Pattrick, Brown and Murray, Arkansas with McFadden, Jones and my Mom, WVU with Slaton, Devine, your mom (not to mention White), Clemson with Davis and Spiller and my sister have at least as good of an argument at this point. Not to mention the 8 headed monster at USC.
