I don't think he's far off; I look at it like this; your D-line isnt quite as good at the one that let Beanie ripped near 150 yards on (LSU friends)
We know we can take away the outside running, so Mcknight or Johnson doesnt bother me so much. If we play better on the interior line,
then the only thing that worries me is our biting on play-action. I believe we'll generate solid pressure on Sanchesz.

Scoring 24 - if we can find a few more holes for Beanie and our recievers can get some space, shouldnt be out of the question.
We did so in our last game. Hell, lets say 31 if our Heisman contender really gets going and we don't have turnovers.

I say, either 31-17 or 31-20 - OSU
Its okay to dream.:)

Buckeneye said it right. I can't see Mcknight getting to the outside. This is my opinion and mine only, I can't see how Mcknight is thought to be this great, new player after rushing for only 540 yds and scoring 4 TDs last season. Maybe I missed something, and maybe someone can help with that. Beanie can't be stopped. He is going to get his yards. Beanie faced one of the better defenses he will face in his collegiate career (LSU) and ran for a buck 40. I just don't see Maulaga (spelling?) lighting up someone who is around the same size and weight. A first year starter at QB (Sanchez) will get rattled early and often. This defense has A LOT of experience in big games and has played in larger venues than the Coliseum. You can't forget about that Terrelle Pryor kid either. If Joe Mcknight can be said to be a super star, then TP must be God himself.

My only issue is which Todd Boeckman shows up. The underthrown deep balls Todd, or the efficient Todd. I think the efficient Todd shows up because I think the running game will be off to a great start.

I don't mean to come off as USC isn't a great team. They are. Look at what they've accomplished in the last 5 years. I just think this is the Buckeyes' year. It's a great feeling to be able to play a top tier opponent thats non-conference, that way either way, the media/country has to appreciate each teams' schedule. My prediction:

tOSU wins, 28-17

I like how it is taken as a given that the LSU 07 defense is better than the USC 08 and thus mathematically Beanie will at least match that performance.

'07 healthy LSU DL at the end of the season(not to mention getting back another stud from suspension in Jean-Francois)>'08 USC DL without it's two stars from last season in 2nd game of the season

healthy Beanie>last year's Beanie(who played at roughly 75%)

Beanie's '08 supporting cast>Beanie's '07 supporting cast

deep balls Todd

Son what video's of Todd did you get ahold of!? haha

J/k man...

Seriously though. I have to agree. Yes Mcknight was good in HS, but he did nothing special last year. If he was a great as people are making him out to be he would've done better regaurdless. Outside rushing doesn't worry me in the least its the bigger back USC throws at us that does. Stephon whatever his name is.

USC can def. beat us easily though if we don't come out and put the fight to them. I can see all scores possible in this game as well. Blow outs either way or close win either way. The way USC coaches in big games scares me to death as well with a everything goes attitude. How will Tressels more conservative approach hold up to USC's all out attitude? Will Todd play like the PSU game? Will USC be able to stop our running game or Can they replace the lines on both sides of the ball? All these questions will be answered soon enough, but right now I have to go with the buckeyes for the fact we return more (especially on the lines). OSU 24 USC 17 with OSU going up 10-0 to start.

Reggie Bush didn't blow anyone away his first year, either.

McKnight: 94 carries, 540 yds, 3 TDs | 23 receptions, 203 yds, 1 TD
Bush: 90 carries, 521 yds, 3 TD | 15 receptions, 314 yds, 4 TDs

My score prediction may be a little high, as far as total points, but I think the margin of victory is about right. I can see a tight game, and I can see a mini-blowout. But for the latter, I think only one team can pull it off. There are just too many aspects where the Buckeyes have an advantage. USC having an inexperienced QB and question marks at OL plays to our strengths. OSU's LBs and defensive backfield will be tough for any O, but with Wilson, Cam, and Gibson in on every play, I expect Sanchez to be running for his life, at times. I would be surprised if OSU doesn't get 2-3 turnovers. I will be equally surprised if USC doen't get a turnover or two as well. TB is going to be a question mark going into the game, no matter how he does in the first two games. USC's DBs are too good to let TB get away with badly thrown balls. But, if Beanie has an average day, TB may not have to do much. Bean had an increduously slow start last season, probably due to injury, but if he's healthy going into the season, he should be full go. The last half of the season (also the toughest part of the sched), I believed he averaged around 160 per game. I expect that this season he will pick up where he left off.

Say what you want about OSU's D last year, but they didn't give up very many points (with a couple of naotable exceptions). They should be even better this year, with all the experience returning. USC's D should see a noticable drop-off. Ellis was a special player at a key position. Maluagualalagalusas and Chushing are bad ass, but losing your MLB (Rivers) can have a big impact on overall D. I see an advantage on D. OSU has been strong against the run for years, and I don't see anything from USC's passing game that is worse than we've seen before. Purdue was supposedly the best passing team we faced last year, and we shut them out until the "scrubs" came in. I can see a close first half, but then The Buckeyes dominate. Beanie gets 2 TDs. Boeckman gets 2 TDs, and maybe an INT that leads to a USC TD ( their only one). Tied at 10-10 at the half, then The Buckeyes pull away. So shall it be written, so shall it be done.

Beanie rushes for 400 yards, final score OSU/Bears - 360, USC 3 (because Tressel/Ditka felt sorry for them and sacrificed 3 points.)

You are right, it shouldn't be a given at this point...and I doubt the OSU coaching staff is taking it as a given. But, out of all the matchups, I think that based on the past performance of this unit there is a lot of reason to be optimistic about Beanie's chances to have a good day. Will it be enough? It sure wasn't in the LSU game, and we'll need more again here. It will be interesting to see what the USC defensive gameplan is, and what USC tries to limit/take away.

Those saying McNight won't get wide are delusional. That offense is designed to spread people out and work wide. They will score. That's agiven. But how much? We won't win a shoot out. Low score plays to our style better and increases our chances. Tressel does like high scoring games.

I don't think anyone is taking it as a givin, but it would make a certain amount of sense that an extremely talented, battle tested defense in the biggest game of their lives up to that point, at the end of the season, might be more effective than a defense, who, though they may be equally talented, is working in some guys that saw limited playing time last year, early in the season. I guess my point is, by the end of the year this year, they might be better than LSU's D at the end of the year last year, but probably not at the beginning. For what its worth, I don't expect that OSU's D will perform at the same level early in the season as they will by the end either.

the other thing about mcknight is that he averaged 5.7 ypc last year as a freshman; beanie ran for similar stats (about 5.5 a carry and 570ish yards) as a frosh and we heralded him as the second coming of jim brown.

different running styles, but joe mcknight is for real

with that said, i think our safeties and corners are good enough to contain for the most part, and i do think beanie will have the better day rushing. but joe will get some yards, i wouldn't be shocked if he broke off a long one
