Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

IMO they are at the worst point an athlete can get to, they are questioning if they are good enough.

In all fairness and honestly not trying to hurt any of the kids (or parents) if they read this stuff, but its a question that needs asking in some cases.

Firing from the hip... I am not convinced it is talent as I think you nailed it when talking about Psychology. How do you regain confidence... You put a 55-0 ass whoopings on teams like Ohio, you hit and practice like game situations. You show them they are that good.

Do we have some talent gaps... Ohh yes we do for sure, but in the comments Alex was saying... there was nothing to get this team up. Maybe they have no faith in the coaches gameplan, or some of its leaders to make the correct changes. That comment from Boone is VERY disheartining in many ways.

Personally I think the team gets excited with Pryor in there and realize he has a change to do something great.. with Todd you know what we get... Nothing special, nothing that will change the game. Just like with Troy... everyplay could be a big one and the team played that way...excited... when down, they didn't lose confidence because they have faith Troy will deliver them out of any mess. We do not have that with Todd IMO.

The D is taking a beating... and though I am VERY concerned with the DLINE even before the season started, they seemed to be juiced and tried to stay fired up all game. I will say I have little to no confidence in our gameplan on the D side of the ball. It has been said here numerous times.. we are very predictable on D.

Anyway, go Bucks and lets get this ship back on course!!

Brough made an excellent point about the O lacking an identity.

When THE Coach was there, it was 3 yards and a cloud.

With Coop, we diversified slightly, but the run was still king with Eddie at the helm.

Now? I couldn't tell you.
With Beanie in, we're the team that can punch you in the mouth and burn you with speed. Without Beanie, we're lost in a sea of swings, slow to develop screens and the long ball that gets swallowed by pressure.

What's clear is that our playcalling needs help, alng with our execution.

Havign said that, I also think the D suffers from the same lack of identity/malaise and may be the bigger problem. I don't think the players have confidence in Coach Heacock's scheme anymore, and frankly after 3 blowouts,I think the scheme is pretty clearly ineffective.

My question is, what's the bigger issue: O,D or both?

I think the problem with the O is that Boeckman isn't a good enough passer to actually give the offense any real identity. When Smith was there, the OSU offense certainly had an identity, namely as one that mixed elements of a pro-style and option offense and kept opponents off balance due to the running threat of Smith. With Boeckman back there all the opposition really has to do is bring pressure and respect the run. Lacking a pcoket passer who really has the ability to make the throws and get out of pressure severaly limits offensive playcalling, as does the lack of a serviceable O Line.
I try to never get down on offensive coordinators unless the team has a solid QB who gets good protection from the O Line and yet the playcalling is still garbage.

The identity of the offense was a power running game that used the run to set up the pass. Without Beanie, the identity has yet to be found.

I thought it would be a MUCH closer game. USCw is good, but I still think they are overrated. Besides you guys, they have a pretty crap schedule, and that may be a little kind, to be quite honest.

Besides us guys?? They just beat the living shit out of Ohio State so what does that say? It doesn't matter what their schedule is as long as they keep firing the way they did on Saturday then it won't matter.

Are my memories of seeing #1 OSU beat #2 and undefeated Michigan false? Winning at #2 Texas on national TV was faked? Beating the Weiss-snot out of Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl never happened?

Like I've said before...

Michigan 06- After a huge win for us in that game but we both get taken to the woodshed in our bowl games. Big game in the big 10? Yeah it was a huge game at that point but in the end a game that we should've won, and did.

Texas 06- Really? They lost to K-state and like arkansas that year and ended with 3 losses. We lost tot hem WITH Vince Young and beat them without him/their starting corner.

Notre Dame- wow. Who hasn't killed ND in a bowl game?

We've had a lot of very nice wins, but every game I go back and re-evaluate I'm not as impressed as once was. I'd say the biggest win in the past 3-4 years was Michigan in 06' and even then Michigan/OSU were exposed in their bowl games 2 months later.

Revisionist history is bullshit.
It was the biggest tOSU-TSUN game in history, arguabley. I'd imagine it's kinda difficult to get up for any game after the hype and emotion that game took out of us.

Yes, Texas '06, really. They were legit, not as good as '05, but still damn good until McCoy went down with a concussion. We also were the ONLY team to hold VY's Texas team to less than 40 points all season, that includes USC.

True, lots of teams beat ND in bowls. None had ever put up 617 yards in doing so.

I disagree.

As we showed against Ohio State in the National Title game a couple years ago, anyone can be beaten on any given day.

They are good but they aren't unbeatable.

I'd like to see y'all play SC. I think your Harvin/Tebow speed + power vs the pressure SC brings would be one heck of a fight.

Your fingers to God's eyes...

After Miami, I am not so sure about the offense. I hope our OC was playing vanilla for the start of the SEC run, but damn, we looked
unimpressive against an unranked team. If UT is a difficult game, then it would tend to confirm that USC would roll us too, and that we are overrated. All I want is ugly wins until the Cocktail Party and to beat the Mutts. The season is a success as long as those butt lickers go down!

Perhaps an inappropriate thread to post this in but it's subject matter is of the upmost importance!!!!!111

For any Buckeye fans who made the trek to L.A. for the game

1. How was it watching a game at the Coliseum, I've heard the sightlines are terrible.

2. Please tell me you got the chance to go to In-N-Out Burger.
I make it a point to go there every time i'm in Vegas.
