Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

We are trailing primarily because of sloppy play. Penalties, missed reads, dropped balls (although i can only think of one that was really bad).

I only mention this because I know--I KNOW--that these issues are correctable. Our boys are not outclassed. They're being tested to the limits of their abilities, and mental errors aside, they're standing pretty tall.

Have faith, Buckeye bretheren, what's done in the first half can be (and often is) undone in the second.

So anybody have a good guess at what is being said in the Buckeye locker room right now, and who is saying it? I imagine Tressel will let Laurinaitis yell at the team to get them fired up, and maybe let Chris Wells give a "win one for the Gipper" type speech.

Remember Buckeyes:

1999:
Notre Dame was losing to USC 24-3 in the 3rd Quarter.... and then came back to win it 25-24.

1989:
Notre Dame was losing to USC 17-7 at halftime, and then came back to win it 28-24.

1986:
Notre Dame was losing to USC 37-20 in the 4th Quarter... and the came back to win it 38-37.

If the Irish could do it, so can the Buckeyes!!!

Costly penalties have hurt us obviously. I hope we continue to keep Pryor involved. I think it is keeping USC off balanced. I see no reason why we can't continue to move the ball and score points. If our defense can step up and make big plays, and some turnovers, to offset the big plays that USC will obviously continue to make, then maybe we can get this game back to within a TD in the 4th quarter, and have a chance to tie or win it.

I like the offensive gameplan. It's obvious that the play calling is not the issue. I was really impressed with what we've done in that respect. We just have no executed and have made dumb mistakes. Fix that, and we are good enough to score a few TDs this half.

As bad as the scoreboard indicates, this doesn't feel at all like halftime of UF or LSU. We got a shot here. SC has done nothing to dictate this game, and they are not in control. I'd like Todd to take some shots downfield in the second half and have a few more runs for Pryor. Get him in there for a series even. Defensively, our Ends aren't getting off their blocks. That's a problem because SC's backs are getting to the outside. Clamp down on that, play with more intensity. We'll be in this game til the end. :osu:

Got a heap 'o work to do in the 2nd half...

Make like you're standing on the Buckeye sideline.

This isn't the time to fall apart. Not now. Not here.

Either get up on the bench and wave that Scarlet and Grey towel, or shove it in your mouth and shut yourself up.

GO BUCKS!

The penalties produced a score much worse than the difference in this game.

We need a lot of luck to come back from this deficit but it is not impossible.

USC is not handling Pryor's mobility well but that comes from the change up when he comes in, in part. I would still be inclined to go to Pryor more. He is not intimidated by the hostile environment, but let's not forget that he also hasn't mastered the entire playbook.

Buckeyes need to be silver bullets. Need to hit with more aggression. We need to take away the run. McKnight needs to be stopped.

The zebras need a talking to: not calling the game fairly.

I lost my voice yelling at numerous of things the first half. First off this should be a GAME right now. We've driven the ball every time we've had it but PENALTIES are killing everything right now. Every time we make a stop, and ever time we do something good we've gotten a penalty. This should be a 14-10 ball game right now. Further more it was FIRST DOWN when Boeckman threw that INT for a TD. We were once again moving the ball. Who knows if that TD isn't negated by a holding and if we make a drive instead of throwing that INT we are potentially winning this ball game.

My fear was the defense and not the offense and so far our defense hasn't done anything to ease my fear. We're getting owned up front it looks like here. Whats confusing to me is how we'll blitz but also play soft zone.... If we blitz most likely they'll throw the ball hot!!! Hmm... If we go into man we'll be there to make the play.

Mcknight is a STUD, and i'm so proud of Herron out there. Herron is very under rated. We need to make a couple more stabs down field to try and score QUICKLY.

Whats so frustrating is I thought if we could control the clock we'd seriously win this ball game. We're keeping their defense on the field and we're IMPLODING. I want to see more of Pryor though because like they said it seems like we have a rythme when Pryor is out there. We can still come back and win this game.
