Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

The most impressive thing to me about USC was their offensive line. They get off together and looked very, very good against Virgina. Take that for what it's worth as the Cavs didn't blitz or bring an extra guy that I saw while watching this snoozer.
Defense looked very solid and physical.
And Petey didn't run it up? Ha! Sanchez was in for most of the game.

The O Line looked good but I will only sold on them if they can come together and really win some battles against a tough Buckeye defense. UVA rarely brought any type of pressure which pretty much gave the USC O Line a day off in the trenches. As someone commented earlier, it's tough to get a read on the play of either team since OSU was playing an overmatched Youngstown State team and USC was playing a UVA team that, while more talented than Youngstown State, was pretty unspectacular. You can't judge an O Line based on a performance against a defense that never blitzed, just like you can't really begin to break down the performance of a QB when he was only pressured twice in a game.
Likewise for the OSU game, the victory against Y. St. shows me nothing. I still dont know if Boeckman is better at responding to pressure than he was a year ago and I still have no clue if the losses on the D-Line were really that important. I guess we will find out on the 13th.

[censored] USC. They need to be worried about the BUCKEYES. I'm tired of hearing how we're gonna have to give it our all to make it a close game and maybe squeak out a win. [censored] that. They need to be worried about tOSU just as much as we are about them. [censored] the pac-10, and [censored] pete carrol. [censored] 'em.
Dont hold back buckyle! Tell us how you REALLY feel! LOL!

I think he may be referring to what all the analysts are saying. Like him, I'm tired of hearing that we need tp play a perfect game that night to stay competitive, that if Beanie doesn't play we don't have a chance. I really like Jesse Palmer as an analyst, but now he's being absolutely biased. But, I do understand the game needs to be won on the field. Remember 41-14? No one gave Florida a chance either.

I am trying so hard not to get my hopes up, I don't talk football with my friends cuz all I get is the same USC "we're gonna whoop your ass" talk. Interesting how they just become Trojan fans within the last 4 years....I have met so many bandwagon Trojan fans that it makes me believe the whole country is a Trojan fan. "How are you a Trojan fan when you're from Connecticut?" I ask, "My mom's uncle's wife is originally from Sacremento so we go out there all the time.". Are you fukin kidding me?! This is not one person mind you, many people I know have the same type story. Rediculous.

Anyway, GO BUCKS!

Yeah, no shit. I met more USC fans while living in Georgia than I think live in Cali. I'm just tired of "last two BCS games, blah blah blah, USC is teh roxors!!1!" bullshit. Everywhere (but here) I turn, it's like they forgot who the fuck Ohio State is. USC has talent? No shit. So the fuck do we. Our coach is pretty damned good too...see, I'm getting myself all worked up again. I need to go break something.

Thats a pretty good rant for an ice dancer. Don't let them hear you talk like that down at the rink, you'll blow your cover.

ESPN, and now it seems, Yahoo & Rival$$$, also, are trying to make USC America's team, as if it's USC's God given right. USC lost to Stanford at home!! Mark May ALWAYS conveniently forgets that fact.

What have they proven?? That they can beat Illinois at home with 40 days prep. In the NFL, Bush & Matty have so far not fared a whole better, if any, than our boy Troy, who hasn't even gotten a chance.

I'm just sick of it...USC is pounded down our throats relentlessly nationally, and I get it ad nauseum locally. The PAC10 is mediocre at best and without USC in the equation, would be the weakest conference of all.

I'm sorry, but I personally hate USC way more than I hate Michigan, especially these days. And I would root for ANY team in the SEC against USC as well...even Florida, (& Jessie Palmer), which I consider the USC of the south.

Nothing personal. :)

I dont really expect Sanchez to "falter" agaisnt a real defense. He certainly won't have the luxury of rolling out and playing pitch and catch with his receivers like he did against UVA but the concept that a team which has basically never lost by more then a touchdown in 6 years will suddenly collapse and have to turn to their backup in a critical game is pretty far fetched. Sanchez has been in the system for FOUR years so I doubt he will suddenly turn into a scared newb, even if he is faced with a tough Buckeye D.

I don't understand where youre coming from.

I said that I doubt Sanchez will just collapse but he has to realize he won't enjoy nearly as much time in the pocket as he did against UVA.

I then said that the OSU victory didn't tell me anything about Boeckman's ability to face the blitz, which I think is a fair assesment. The last time was saw Boeckman face a fast defence he did poorly so I think it is fair to suspend any assesment of Boeckman's ability to deliver against a speedy D until he faces one.

Boekman had similar time in the program prior to his first start last year. That alone doesn't prepare a QB for when the heat gets turned up.

Mark hasn't faced significant pressure yet and there is no way to know how he will react, just as there was no real way to know how Todd would prior to the last couple of games last year.
