Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

our rushing game could be the strength this year with Stafon Johnson, CJ Gable, and Joe McKnight all contributing different styles.

Another name that I know that you'll know, but other people on this board may not, is Marc Tyler. I think him and Mcknight are the true future of USC running backs.

13. Upsets of the year

Ohio State over USC (Sept. 13): One of the nation's most stout defenses goes up against an offense that is still finding itself. The USC quarterback situation is up in the air until Sanchez returns and Pete Carroll is still looking for a go-to receiver. Watch for Beanie Wells to pound it out and Terrelle Pryor to give the Trojans fits.

USC's Joe McKnight is injured again

The sophomore tailback, who missed time last week after a door was closed on two of his fingers, sits out practice because of a hyperextended right elbow

The misadventures of USC running back Joe McKnight continue.

The sophomore from Louisiana spent Sunday night's practice on a golf cart, wearing a near full-length brace on his right arm. McKnight suffered a hyperextended elbow in the Trojans' scrimmage at the Coliseum the night before, Coach Pete Carroll said.

Contd....

So when the ball isn't in Beanie or Pryor's hands, what does SC have to look out for?

Lets see, Boeckman, the Brians, Saine, Small, Sanzo, Ballard and/or Nicol... maybe Posey.

Then there's Jenkins, Coleman, Animal, Wilson, Freeman, Heyward...

so in other words, just a couple folkes.

edit: Alright boys, remember that's his right side - make him think twice about turning to it when you go to hit him.

methomps, who's stepping up on the OL? I assume O'Dowd would be one but who else?

Not Methomps but according to some SC insiders, the right side of the OL is a concern especially RG and the overall gelling of the OL.
Byars at LG is being counted on as one of the strengths, along with Brown at RT. Their depth chart does not appear as strong with Frosh Michael Reardon backing up the OT and OG. Many believe that the defense will carry the offense the first half of the season until the unit gels.
Surprisingly many SC followers are more concerned with their WR production than OL this year.
Many predict PC's stratedy vs. TOSU must be dink and dunk and play possession ball. This would be a radical change from Sanchez' style and strength (gunslinger, though eratic and inconsistent).
They anticipate from watching TOSU in the big games ('06 and '07 BCS championship and Illinois) dink and dunk will still be the achilles heel.

So JL and Freeman look to combine for 3 INTs. Works for me!
