Game Thread Ohio State 27, Iowa 24 (final, OT, 11/14/09) - Rose Bowl bound!!!

Rose Bowl ALWAYS takes Big Ten #1 and Pac Ten #1...that's just the tradition. It's been that way for years.

I think the reason he is confused is when a team get pulled to the Title there are other at large teams pulled. But Merih is correct and even to a fault sometimes the Rose takes the traditional matchup per what they want (ILL in 07).

Didn't Texas play Michigan in the Rose Bowl a few years ago. Last time I checked Texas was not in the Pac-10.

Ahh, you've got me. I just thought about that game too.

Let me rephrase it, the Rose Bowl ALWAYS takes the Big Ten #1 vs the Pac Ten #1 when they can. That year, USC went to the national championship, and no one else from the Pac 10 was appealing enough so they took Texas.

That was a great game too. Good catch.

Isn't there some new rule about the Rose taking a non-BCS conference (Boise State/Utah/TCU) if one of the Pac 10/Big T1e1n teams is in the MNCG?

There was also the 2002 NC season when USC played Iowa in the Orange Bowl and Oklahoma played Washington State in the Rose Bowl. I'm guessing the Orange Bowl had the first selection, because you'd think the Rose Bowl would have taken Iowa based on tradition. I don't remember the order of that year for sure, though.

Washington State was the Pac-10 Champion, and had the tie breaker with USC. Ohio State was co Big 10 Champion and was in the National Championship game. I believe that the Orange Bowl had first Pick to replace Miami, and they took Iowa, Big 10 Co Champion, and pissed the Rose Bowl off mightily - The Rose wasn't about to pick USC to play Wazzou, so they took Oklahoma. The Orange than took USC. That was the first year that a Big 10/Pac 10 champ was in the NCG.

I figured it was a situation like that, thanks for clarifying.
