Game Thread Ohio State 20, Wisconsin 17 (Oct. 4)

Waaaaaahhhhh......I live in Hawaii and it's too sunny out today.......Waaaaaahhhhh

I think this will be a slaughter. The more time goes by this week, the more I'm thinking Wisconsin stinks and the TP/Beanie combination is just unstoppable. Could be my over-excitement for the game taking over my unbiased judgment, but I'm thinking the fourth quarter will be essentially pointless.

Listen to your inner voice.

When is the last time Ohio State blew out Wisconsin?

Last year did not constitute a blowout in reality and the 4th quarter was far from academic.

If there is one prediction I'll make it's that Wisconsin will not be blown out. I'd flat out predict a Wisconsin win without my inner voice faintly telling me I was fooling myself, if I had full confidence in the Wisconsin staff's ability to utilize their personnel properly. It's like when Tressell was sticking with Boeckman in the USC game even though the only reasonably effective offensive plays occurred when Pryor was in the game. He could overcome his destructive conservatism at any point hypothetically, but who the hell knows when it will come to fruition.

I think you're being reactive about last weekend when you assert Wisconsin stinks. One week before they were the toast of the conference for snagging the Big Ten's only decent OOC win. If OSU matched up with USC the week after they lost at Corvalis would you be arguing that the game was going to be a cakewalk?

JB was at Pickerington Central's game tonight with Justin Boren, so I doubt he dresses tomorrow.

That was a REALLY low bar to clear.

Nope. "Dominating" would be the word I'd use...

His point was that one individual's outstanding performance doesn't always reflect on the scoreboard. So you have to agree that Beanie dominated, and to some, he dazzled... but it was a low scoring game, 14-3.

Four downs for deciding OSU-Wisconsin

Posted by Doug Lesmerises October 03, 2008 23:58PM

First down

Michael Brewster, Ohio State center
medium_brewstertg.jpg
Terry Gilliam/Associated PressMichael Brewster's agility has helped the freshman center (50) lead the way for OSU ball-carriers, including Todd Boeckman.
Terrelle Pryor starting as a freshman quarterback -- impressive. Brewster starting as a freshman center, considering he didn't play the position in high school -- more impressive. Since earning a start in his fourth game, Brewster has been compared to first-round NFL pick Nick Mangold, who played as an OSU freshman in 2002. But Mangold didn't play this quickly and he had played center in high school.
Brewster, told he was a center prospect, tried to get a jump on things by enrolling at Ohio State in January for the winter quarter, but he was forced to sit out spring practice while recovering from right shoulder surgery necessitated by an injury suffered in his last high school game. Then the veteran linemen made him shave his head during preseason camp.
So when he started against Troy, it came basically two months after working in full-time practice as a full-time center for the first time.
But with Jim Tressel looking for his line to play faster, the 6-foot-5, 296-pound Brewster was an obvious choice to shake things up.
"He's a pretty natural athlete," offensive line coach Jim Bollman said. "He has pretty good quickness and pretty good size and all those things combined."
Raucous Camp Randall Stadium will be his greatest test yet.

"With two starts under his belt, he'll settle in," former center and current left guard Jim Cordle said. "Some of the freshmen have surprised me how they don't really get that nervous or rattled."

Second down
P.J. Hill, Wisconsin running back

There's no ambiguity concerning the word "dazzling". It implies something flashy and eye-catching. Even Beanie's 60-some yard TD run wasn't "dazzling". If Pryor has a "dazzling" game. you can rest assured that we'll score more than 14 points in a game...

Reeling Michigan says hi, Bret.

Glen Mason kinda called him on it too. Mason said "What he means is, I sure hope OSU doesn't play up to their potential", or something like that...followed by Bielema backpeddaling very clumsily and hastily. It was goofy looking. Kind of like Bielema staring directly in front of himself...right as his eyes begin to cross. I know I'm not the only one that's seen it.

I hope we're in the position to pour it on, and I hope we do. And I hope Bret loses the rest of his games this year and gets fired.

Ok, so maybe not the last part. But I wouldn't care either way.

Wisconsin can be crazy trip for any freshman

What's brewing today with the Ohio State Buckeyes:
Buckeyes buzz

Everybody's heard how wild Wisconsin's Camp Randall Stadium is. Now imagine dropping a freshman from an opposing team into the middle of that vulgar, loud, raucous mosh-pit of a facility.
That's what the Buckeyes are doing with Terrelle Pryor at quarterback; a true freshman at the most important position on offense, with 80,000 fans screaming and 11 physical defenders gunning for him.
But Ohio State coach Jim Tressel isn't the least bit worried.

Win at Wisconsin would show OSU on the road back

By JON SPENCER ? Gannett News Service ? October 4, 2008

COLUMBUS - Ohio State tailback Chris "Beanie" Wells was being a student this past spring when his phone started beeping.
"Terrelle (Pryor) is a football head," Wells said with a hint of amazement as he recalled the moment. "I was in class ... and was thinking he should be class (in Jeannette, Pa.) ... but he was texting me that he was watching film. It's incredible the desire he has."
No one questions Pryor's study habits when it comes to playing quarterback. He is the only high school player in Pennsylvania to both throw and run for over 4,000 yards in his career, and it took him only three games to unseat senior captain Todd Boeckman at the controls for Ohio State.
But the two tests Pryor has taken as a starter have been pop quizzes compared to the major exam tonight on national TV when the 6-foot-6, 235-pound true freshman leads the No. 12 Buckeyes (4-1, 1-0 Big Ten) into Camp Randall Stadium against No.17 Wisconsin (3-1, 0-1).
OK, co-leads.
Wells is ready for more responsibility against the Badgers after being eased back into action in last week's 34-21 win over Minnesota. He had missed the previous 3 1?2 games with a mysterious foot injury.
