Ohio Stadium aka THE Horseshoe (Official Thread)

I agree... the later in the day the louder it gets. Really hope we make the PED game a night game.

I hope that as well. And I also hope they theme as well, i.e: a black out, "scarlet" out, etc.
I know not all fans like it, but the players, recruits, students and a lot of other fans like it. UC had a blackout and sunglasses theme for their night game this past Friday, and it's a cool showing when the team comes out.

Are we just spoiled where weaker opponents aren't cool even in B1G play or are the blue hairs ruining the atmosphere?

Re: The days of old money sitting in their seats is over.

Just sayin': Ha, you'll never convince Gene Smith of that. Face the economic facts. The days of maximizing contributions to the university and/or athletic department are still here. People are not going to continue to donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to sit in the end zone.

How, why Ohio State is changing ticketing model at Horseshoe

Ohio State wants a full Horseshoe.

The athletic department also needs to raise more money.

Finding the ideal solution to balance those two objectives has been nearly a decade in the making for the Buckeyes. But now they believe they’ve found one with an overhaul to the season-ticket pricing that will be formally voted on Thursday by the Board of Trustees: Per-seat Contributions are coming to the Horseshoe starting with the 2022 football season.

“This has been a focus in our crosshairs for a long time,” Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith said. “It’s been something that we evolved to, and I’ll never forget the big discussion about just going to variable ticket pricing in the Shoe. It was like heresy then, it’s funny now. It’s just been inch by inch. This has been in the works for a long time.

“If you were to build the Shoe today straight out with no history, no embedded constituencies, no grandfathered-issues, nothing and were to seat it, this is how you would see it. Maybe it wouldn’t be six price zones. It could be scaled with less or more, but you would scale it. You just have to figure out based on the day’s fan behavior what would fit, but you would definitely scale it.”

Fans can submit their own designs for what they'd like the new turf to look like on the team website from Oct. 15 to Oct. 29. Designs can be in the form of photographs or PDFs, and children are encouraged to submit their own designs, as well.

OSU is taking fan submissions for how the new field turf should look

I don't have the chops, but I think they should make one EZ like the 2015 Fiesta Bowl and the other, though utilizing the 2015 Fiesta Bowl font, like the 1997 Rose Bowl. (I would accept the 2003 Fiesta Bowl EZ and Font as well) The Scarlet backed EZ should say "Ohio State" and the gray backed EZ should say "Buckeyes" The mid-field logo should remain the block O, but could be any of these:

They built a tub around that field when they sunk it so I have no idea why they cannot put in grass.

I remember the clumping issue but did not recall lack of sunlight being the reason.

Ohio State says it was contributed to wear, drought, and sod that wouldn't root:

Fierce wear, a drought, and a batch of sod that wouldn’t root forced the replacement of the field twice during the 2006 season.

OSU Goes Back to Artificial Turf
Dec. 1, 2006
Ohio State will revert back to artificial turf on its football field after problems with the natural grass forced the university to lay new sod twice this season.

The athletic department made the decision this week, and the change in surface will provide a more durable, consistent field for the Buckeyes, said Don Patko, assistant athletic director for facilities management.

The stadium, built in 1922, had its grass field replaced by artificial turf in 1971. In 1990, university officials switched the field back to natural grass.

Coach Jim Tressel advocated reverting to an artificial surface after players complained that the new sod laid this season was slippery and dislodged in chunks.

"What I am pushing for is a consistent surface," Tressel said. "And then, the bonus of artificial turf would be the chance to have a lot more use."

This season, the worn out turf was replaced a third of the way through the team's schedule, at a cost of about $100,000. Three games later, the field was resodded again, this time for $67,000, after the first round of sod developed brown patches and tattered edges.
