The future Ohio State passer was working in his first-ever club 7-on-7 event thanks to an archaic rule getting overturned in his native state of Ohio. It led to some expected troubles at times, as Fast Houston went 0-4 in the tournament, something St. Clair admits has to do with the lack of experience in the setting. It did not take away from the elite passer showing off the goods at different points, from possessing arguably the cleanest motion and release to that natural arm talent on display even when his feet were not quite set. There's a smoothness to St. Clair that makes it easy to see why he has ascended and became so coveted before picking the Buckeyes last summer.
The best elements we saw over the weekend came when he was balanced and on time. St. Clair also showed the ability to take something off of the ball and layer it in between levels, working the middle of the field like a mature passer. Of course, the deep shots were on display, too, with easy velocity to push it wherever he wanted. St. Clair also grew more comfortable as the event wore on, snapping through reads faster and delivering with great timing to all three levels. The strong mechanics and easy-to-see physical traits are to the level that his lack of experience and small-school background aren't cutting off his shot at pushing for a top spot in the class.

“There’s some chatter starting about a potential change at the top with Tavien St. Clair. This is a kid that we really, really like. He’s got a prototypical frame. He is all of 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, and he’s got a really loose stroke and can touch all the different corners of the field. I loved him at that Elite 11 regional, and then we see him at this OT7 tournament, I thought there were some encouraging things. He did throw some interceptions, but you have to remember that Tavien St. Clair – because of those Ohio High School Athletic Association rules – he’s never really played 7-on-7 football. He told me this was his first-ever club tournament. He’s only played a few with his high school and those were normally at Ohio State. There were some peaks and some valleys. But overall, it was an encouraging performance. He made some high-level throws.

“He’s gonna be at the Elite 11 finals this summer. Hopefully, we’re gonna see him and Bryce Underwood go at it there. But yes, I do think that there is potentially room for change at the top. Tavien St. Clair is sitting in the top 10 of the rankings. We are way higher on him than the rest of the industry, and I would not be surprised if other people corrected him and he moved up their board. But in Tavien St. Clair, Ohio State is getting a really, really good quarterback.”

Shocker. Kid is going to force everyone to at least have him at 5* and in the discussion for best QB overall with this run in the offseason. Fun to watch the ranking discussions, but I know what we've got here with TSC. He is going to be a star.
I haven't seen a progression like this since, Mylan Graham (0 star to 5star) :biggrin2:

This might be the biggest question of all heading into our next rankings meetings.
Tavien St. Clair
has everything you look for in a quarterback, which is why Ohio State pushed for his commitment early. He’s got the size, arm strength, accuracy and athleticism to make plays throwing on the run.

I was able to see him up close at the Elite 11 regional camp in Ohio. He had a great day and the ball just jumped out of his hand. St. Clair punched his ticket to the Elite 11 Finals that day. He’s steadily improved during his high school career and hasn’t hit his ceiling yet as a prospect.
The discussion about bumping him to a five-star will surely happen. St. Clair has had a terrific offseason so far but will it be enough?

2. Tavien St. Clair, QB, Ohio State commit: In our eyes, no signal-caller has made more of a year-over-year improvement than St. Clair, who put together one of our favorite Elite 11 workouts. A former baseball player, St. Clair owns a smooth stroke and is comfortable operating on the move. He has the ideal frame at 6-foot-4, 225 pounds and is coming off a 11th-grade campaign at Bellefontaine (Ohio) in which he completed over 70% of his passes.
