Ohio State has added the son of a former Buckeye standout to its 2026 recruiting class.
Three-star 2026 offensive lineman Mason Wilhelm, the son of former Ohio State linebacker Matt Wilhelm, announced his commitment to the Buckeyes on Friday.

Wilhelm was previously committed to North Carolina.

The Wilhelm File

  • Class: 2026
  • Size: 6-4/290
  • Pos: OL
  • School: St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio)
  • Composite Rating: ★★★
  • Composite Rank: #1276 (#101 IOL)
He’s ranked as the No. 1,276 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class.
Wilhelm had not previously announced an offer from Ohio State, but had visited Ohio State several times and grew up in Northeast Ohio dreaming of playing for the Buckeyes.
His father played for the Buckeyes from 1999-2002, earning consensus All-American honors as he helped lead Ohio State to the national championship for the 2002 season. Matt Wilhelm was inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2024.
Mason Wilhelm plays right guard at St. Edward High School, where he’s helped lead the Eagles to an 8-2 record this season entering the second round of the Ohio state playoffs, in which St. Edward will face Berea-Midpark on Friday night.

Wilhelm, who weighs in at 6-foot-4 and 290 pounds, projects to play on the interior offensive line at Ohio State.
He becomes the fifth offensive lineman in Ohio State’s 2026 recruiting class, joining fellow Northeast Ohio prospects Sam Greer, Maxwell Riley and Landry Brede, as well as Arizona offensive lineman Tucker Smith. Three-star offensive tackle Aaron Thomas decommitted from Ohio State on Monday and committed to Minnesota on Friday.
Wilhelm becomes the 23rd overall member of Ohio State’s 2026 class. He’s the second player to flip his commitment to Ohio State in as many days, joining four-star cornerback Jay Timmons, who was previously committed to Florida State.

Welcome to the fam Mason! A mauler who bleeds S&G. Has been dreaming about this offer and I figured if he ever earned it would be a Buckeye immediately. An IOL project who may take a few years to get up to speed. And this is more than likely a nail in the coffin in getting Brown
