2018 OH DL Aeneas Hawkins (Penn State Verbal)

I realize this will drift into more Mathew Jones discussion............but I agree totally with Vincent and Hawkins. 2 VERY good DT prospects. My question, is whether we take 3 DT's and whether Jones is the 3rd if we do?

I don't think its outside the realm of possibilities that we take Vincent, Hawkins and a third DT (someone like Togiai, Mustipher or Fontaine), plus Jones since he might be projected as an OL. I don't think that scenario is likely but either way, I would like to see us get Hawkins on board sooner rather than later if possible...cannot let him leave the state and then we can focus on trying to get another home run to close out the DT position for the '18 class.

With losing Hill and Sprinkle to graduation after this season, 2 DTs in this recruiting class are a must and Hawkins is absolutely a TAKE. The fact that Hawkins can do what he did against one of the hardest schedules in all of HS football is more than impressive.

IMHO, Jones is a must-take regardless of position because of his versatility at two positions of great need. Plus, with how rare elite 1-Techs are, I see that as a position unique to itself which neither Vincent or Hawkins could fill. Thus, if Jones pulls the trigger before Hawkins, he wouldn't be taking Hawkins's spot in this class. I'm of the thought you take 2 DT's + Jones and plan the finer details later

Really good read by Birm. This quote prompted me to move him into the DE category on the '18 Offers Page:
“Johnson likes me as an end right now more than a 3-tech. He thinks I’d be very physical and make it difficult for teams to get the edge, but he thinks I can be a high quality pass rusher at either spot though,” Hawkins said.
Love this as well:
“Almost none of what we hear on recruiting visits is real,” Hawkins said. “Ninety-nine percent of the schools I’ve visited just show you the smoke and flashing lights. What Ohio State does is real. They show you where they see you fit in.”
Returning for the Spring Game.

Johnson created an individualized PowerPoint for Aeneas to show him how he can improve.
"One of the bigger reasons I pushed it back was because I didn't give Ohio State a deep enough look," Hawkins said. "I've been there for spring games, I was there for the Michigan game, but coaches don't have time on those days, you know what I mean? They're worried about their guys.

"I'm not going to rush a decision when potentially the best college program of all time, I haven't even given them a solid look. If I would have rushed a commitment anywhere else, I wouldn't be able to live with that.

"It was important for me to get back and actually get to sit down with Coach Johnson and see the plan, seeing how he coaches, I mean, it's elite. I have been to a lot of different places, I've seen a lot of great coaching, but the way they do things is on a different level. It was really impressive to see."
