OG Donovan Jackson (Official Thread)

Ohio State football starting guard Donovan Jackson has a hamstring injury

It has been reported that Jackson is suffering from a hamstring injury. If that is the case, that's extremely distressing. Hamstring injuries just tend to linger for weeks on end if not properly cared for. Ohio State can't afford to be without him during some of their harder games.

This injury is also evidence of a troubling trend that we have seen in the last few years. It seems like year after year, the Buckeyes have soft tissue injuries early in the year. It happened with Jackson Smith-Njigba, Emeka Egbuka, and now Jackson. Why does this keep happening?

It's clear that something needs to be adjusted with the strength and conditioning program to keep these kinds of injuries from happening early in the year. It's entirely preventable early in the year. There's no reason guys should be missing the beginning of the year.

Hopefully, Jackson is able to come back soon and will be fully healthy.

Well he definitely needs to take some time to rehab that issue so it doesn't linger during the meat of the schedule. Hopefully he can sit out this week and then has a bye to get healthy. And then Marshall. So realistically he has plenty of time to try and make sure it doesn't become a nagging injury. Plus it gives Siereveld and some of the other guys a chance to grow some hair on the chest while he is out.

I'm surprised that he's been practicing. One tweak could set him back weeks.

5-Year-Old Inspires Columbus Startup to Create a New Way to Teach Football, Partners with Donovan Jackson

Donovan Jackson doesn’t exactly recall how he first learned football growing up in Texas, but one thing is certain—he didn’t have a tool like the bean bag toss game he recently played with a group of 1st and 2nd graders. "It’s such a cool way to help kids understand football," Jackson said during his recent visit to Barrington Elementary in Upper Arlington. "I wish I had something like this when I was their age."

Jackson, a standout offensive guard at Ohio State, was at the school to introduce the students to Future Fans, a Columbus-based startup that’s making football fun and accessible for young children. The company was founded by Michael Gold and Mike Schroder, two dads on a mission to rethink how kids learn about sports. For Schroder, the inspiration came from a personal challenge—explaining football to his then 5-year-old daughter during the Cincinnati Bengals' Super Bowl run a couple of years ago.

“I realized that trying to explain football to a little kid was incredibly difficult,” Schroder said. “So, we set off to reimagine how to introduce a young kid to a sport in a way that makes sense to them.”

That idea evolved into Future Fans Football, a product designed to teach kids as young as four the basics of the game through engaging, hands-on activities. One of the standout features is the bean bag toss game, which introduces the concept of “downs” in football through four tries to hit a target. The activities are paired with a storybook, creating a fun, interactive experience between adults and children. It’s a perfect way to build a connection with the sport while spending quality time together.

Ohio State Left Guard Donovan Jackson “Ready to Roll” After Missing First Two Games with Injury

149130_h.jpg

Donovan Jackson is “ready to roll” for Ohio State’s third game of the season against Marshall.

Ryan Day said Tuesday that he expects Jackson to be full-go for Saturday’s game against the Thundering Herd (Noon, FOX) after missing the Buckeyes’ first two games of the year with an injury, provided that Jackson has another full week of practice after going through a full week of practice during the bye week last week.

“As long as we have a good week of practice, he'll be ready to go for Saturday,” Day said.

Agreed that keeping him out was best move. Also, Severeid got some very useful playing time. Believe I noticed, that when games were out of reach, he was still in there with the 2's & 3's, blocking away. Kinda wondered at that, because there are others that could have used the time. Any thoughts?

He needs the reps too. That's my thoughts.

Siereveld is a critical depth piece that definitely benefits from the reps, really the #1 depth piece on the interior it appears. Obviously you don't take Jackson off the field and pray that he stays healthy, but if something happens to him or Tegra, it seems clear that Siereveld is the next man up.

Thought Hinzman was to be the first guard off the bench. Guess things change, no? Keeping Hinzman as a center replacement, along with Tegra as a back back-up? Thought Montgomery was going to be the second coming, but seems he's faded into the wilderness. Trying to keep up, but sometimes I get befuddled. Plus all the other 'next big things' or 'development players' that are lurking in the background. Gotta say, most of them pass the look test, so something(s) are lacking? tOSU has some OL talent from darn good HS programs, that folk have scouted pretty darn well, so, once again, I'm probably making this more complicated than it is. Finally, going against the arguably #1 DL in the nation, should be able to assume (at least so far this season), that the practices have been harder than the games. Must admit, pulling Sievereld outa the background worked pretty darn well, even though he hadn't received any/many accolades. Go Bucks!
