Official Tour de France thread.

I can't wait until Lance loses. He is one of the biggest athletic frauds of all-time. People rip Barry Bonds but Lance has ingested more illegal substances than Ben Johnson, and Jason Giambi combined. I am glad he overcame cancer but he has had some "help" winning 6 tours. I don't care who wins as long as it's not Lance.

Instead of just sounding off with unproven rumours and French falsehoods, you might want to try to actually research the topic. Armstrong's road to success is well documented and has to do with the training he did with a professor of Physiology at the University of Texas. Here's the link to a story on Armstrong's training that was run on NPR this morning if you care to actually learn the facts:

And just this morning another rider had to drop out of the tour because he failed his drug test, yet somehow Lance passed. Let me guess, you think he's paying off the French officials so he can get away? Tour drug testing isn't the joke that MLB has.

Keep hatin' him, fred

f-you-fred, don't you understand? The only people that Armstrong regard as more of a joke than the people who say he's doping are the people who say he can't, won't, or shouldn't win.

By the way, anyone who didn't watch this morning, do yourself a favor and watch the replay. Armstrong wins because he has that special quality that only comes along in maybe one athlete per generation. He has the ability to single-mindedly focus on anyone who dares defy his supremacy, and destroy them. It's like watching Michael Jordan or Muhammad Ali.

Oh yeah, this is from last year, but it's still good, and it's appropriate:

It really looks like Lance's race now. The Discovery team has been very strong the last 2 stages, after having a bad day on Saturday. Oddly, they were weak on Saturday when he retained the yellow jersey, but were strong on Sunday when Lance lost it; but that's because the team/Lance chooses which guys are worth running down in the breakaways. Rasmussen, Voigt, and Moreau weren't worth an all-out chase on Sunday. Voigt totally tanked today, losing around 30 minutes, and Moreau also faded some. Voigt went from 1st place to 72nd, which really shows that the race for the yellow jersey is all about what happens in the mountains.

Lance is now 2:40 ahead of Basso and 4:02 ahead of Ullrich. Among the guys that look like contenders for the first time this year, he's 38 seconds ahead of Rasmussen, and 3:16 ahead of Valverde, today's stage winner. Vinokourov cracked big time today, at is almost completely gone at 6:32.

Today was a disaster for both CSC and T-Mobile, the two teams that had the best chance of challenging all the way to Paris. Discovery can just play defense against the handful of guys that are still within a few minutes of the overall lead. But I'm sure that Lance will want to win at least one mountain stage just to make a statement.

Basso is the only guy left with a shot IMO.

BB there was some chatter that the apparent weakness shown by Disco was on purpose. Some believe that Bruneel was playing possum and they were expecting Disco boys to dominate when they came to the high mountains. They figured that LA could defend himself on a 4% grade, so they left him alone.

I am not sure I buy that, but it makes for a hell of a story.

If that's true, they either didn't tell Lance about it, or he's a much better actor than I'd give him credit for. He was not happy in the live interview I saw right after the stage was over. This story is probably just smoke to keep the other teams guessing.

I agree with you, way too risky to leave LA alone against 3.

This is the bigger news of the day....

"Stage 10 was shortened by 15km to 177.5km after a compromise was hashed out with protesters angry about recent wolf attacks on sheep and cow herds. They had threatened to stop the peloton mid-race and hurl cow manure on the hapless riders to drive home their point. "

Only en Francais...
