This won't be the norm, but this is THE road game next year. I'll try to put as much information about the Texas game in regards to parking, tickets, hotels, etc. in this thread. I will also encourage our Texas visitors to post their knowledge of gameday.

I can't find a great map, so I'm combining the 2 good ones I found.

I encourage anybody with knowledge of Texas Gamedays to post in this thread. I will combine your knowledge with this first post to keep everything in one place.

if you plan on leaving quickly after the game, then parking in the garage is not smart. If your hotel is only a couple of blocks away then you should walk. there will be plenty going on in the area anyway so you won't feel like you are wondering aimlessly. if you can't walk then i would say to try and find a parking meeter somewhere. parking is free downtown durring the weekends and usually available just south or west of campus.

another website of use might be www.austin360.com

If possible, I'd park in the neighborhood directly north of campus (Hyde Park). If you don't mind a 15 minute walk, that is.

There's also going to be parking across I-35 near the baseball stadium.

Most tailgating will be done just south of campus, so keep that in mind when you park. If you plan on tailgating, park near the baseball stadium if possible.

I'm gonna be making the trip with a couple of my friends from back in Ohio and one Horn fan. Can't wait! I already have $2000 set aside for the trip. I've spent about a year of my AF career in Texas and loved every second of it...would love to get stationed in San Antonio before I'm done in the AF. I know its gonna be a great time, all the Texas fans I've come across seem like a classy and knowledgable bunch.

Better wear sneakers....cause you are going to be walking your butt off......downtown Austin is very hilly too. The stadium is basically in downtown and parking is the worst that I have ever seen at any stadium. Shuttle is probably a good thing also.........

Be sure to go to a high school game the night before.........i'll let someone know the big games in the area once the schedules come out.

Pflugerville, Austin Westlake, Leander, Hays Consolidated, Round Rock McNeil, Pflugerville Connally, Wimberly, and Hutto are some of the good programs in the area.

If you are interested in going out Friday and/or Saturday night look into 6th street 18-30s crowd, or 4th street 30s+ crowd. There are several nice hotels in that part of downtown where you can stay and have an easy walk home. Stay on the west side of I35. If you stay north of 12th street you area within awalking distance of the stadium, and the capital complex, which you can check out if you like. Make reservations early as good hotels get booked up byout of town Texas fans.

Most of the serious parkinglot tailgating is in the state parking lots south of campus, north of the capital and between I35 and Congress. If you drive in and want to tailgate, get there early Saturday and have a good time. For those wanting to bring an RV find a spot on 5:00 Friday after the state employees leave. You should also look at Mack Brown's site and look at the RV rules at www.mackbrown-texasfootball.com .

I hope you enjoy your visit, (but not too much).

GREATNESS, glad to see you guys are already planning the trips down. Unless you are really a football freak, don't waste your time going to a High School game on Friday night. The bigger city games aren't the true Varsity Blues/Friday Night Lights experience anyway. And there is WAY too much to do in Austin other than that. But, if you wish, go for it. Anyways, if this thread gets pushed to the backburners, feel free to PM me about any goings on in the city. I moved from there a year or two ago, so just let any me or any of the UT posters know what you are looking for in the ways of restaurants/hotels/nightlife (style, age, family, couple or single) and I am sure we will be able to give you a better read than citysearch or hotles.com. The lakes are great around that time as well if any of your are planning on making it a longer trip.

(by the way, have any of you guys heard from that swinger who posted on here a couple of months ago looking for some tOSU fans to come and stay with him in Austin for the game?)

Alternatives to downtown hotels in Austin

I know...if I spent the time and money to come that far, then I would want to stay downtown, too. I have lived in Austin for years and can offer alternative sites in other areas of town or suburbs. Naturally, this will be inconvenient, but at least it's an option. Here's some suggestions. (This will depend on having or not having a rent car).

Very new La Quinta at Mopac (Hwy 1) and Loop 360 (Capital of Texas Highway). There is a very large Mall (Barton Creek Mall) just north of this hotel AND on gameday the Capitol Metro shuttle buses run constantly from the mall north parking lot to and from the stadium.

More later on suburbs--Round Rock, Georgetown, Northwest Austin and Cedar Park. Let us know your needs and we'll help.

the buckeye tickets will most likely be in sections 9,10,11, and 12

the east side is the student side, West is the Alumns. We are famous for our not so roudy alumn side. students are a different story. It is not much of a strech to say that there are two different experiences to be had.

If I can pull this off, my wife and I will make the trip together. Its our anniversary weekend (9/11) and we have been talking about going to an away game for while.

I've opened a bank account she doesn't know about to start putting away money for it.
