Official Super Bowl thread....

I just don't understand why everyone is pissed at the level they are about the Steelers winning as they did yesterday. If you are a Seahawk fan, I understand, but why are other fans so bitter?

I am by no means a Steelers fan (I'm still upset about the immaculate reception call...and I wasn't even alive back then!), but why do so many people seem bitter about the Steelers winning it...what is the cause of the animosity? I could tell from listening to Cleveland sports radio this morning that they have simply reacting out of jealousy. However, how do you account for everyone else? Why the bitterness?

Jealousy? Yes. Bitterness? Yes.

But I think mostly people would have just liked to have seen a good, well-played, well-officiated game. When the officials tried to take the game away from the Steelers and give it to the Colts, I started cheering for the Steelers even though I am a Browns' fan. I absolutely hate to see a game not decided on its merits.

I was disappointed in the game for three reasons: 1. Officiating. 2. Seahawks poor decisionmaking and execution. 3. Ben Rothlesberger choking on the big stage.

I would have been satisfied if any two of the three above had been different.

I'm not bitter about Pitt winning. The thing that bothered Me was the officiating. I was horrible both ways, but there were more alls in favor of the Steelers. All they did all day was talk up these officials and they were horrible.

But I do have to say congrats to the Steelers as they did end up winning.

ditto, I hated seeing such one-sided reffing... I don't think it was a conspiracy, I just think it was atrocious reffing. I really had no favorite in the game, as I was not a fan of either team but had sentimental reasons to root for both squads (nationwide disrespect for seattle, personal respect for Bettis and Roth.)

Lots of reasons, depending. Some are jealous, some are bitter, some are pissed because of all the whining that Joey Porter did about the officiating, and then watching yesterday's game, some are tired of the Notre-Dame-like lovefest from the media, some people think the NFL decided they would make more money from Super Bowl merchandise if Pittsburgh won...really depends on who it is.

What a blast! The Steelers win it! Hats off to my favorite team!
Ya' guys gripe about the officiating, yet the Seahogs did not help themselves out at all either.
Hasselbeck, umm... threw an interception too, then there was Jeremy Stevens dropped about 4 passes & poor clock management. Porter was very well behaved on the field as I expected contrary to others beliefs!
I don't understand the hate thing here, but I might quickly! If you don't like the Steelers please don't watch them, that's my plan. There are other stations to watch. It's kind of funny to see all this on here!

Yeah just don't watch THE FRIGGIN SUPERBOWL!!! Nobody said they hate the Steelers. They just said they would have liked the outcome to be based on the play of each team, not bad calls. I was rooting for the Steelers just to see the Bus get his ring because I think he deserved it. But I could not help shaking me head at some of the calls.

Some notes on the game:

The last 2+ weeks we're heard about the "SuperBORE XL" and how the Steelers - Seahawks was a poor matchup that would generate such low public interest. As it turns out, only 90 million viewers, the most since SB XXX, 10 years ago, watched the game. The teams who played SB XXX - Steelers & Cowboys.

The pre-game and halftime performances were awful, in my opinion. Over blown, over hyped productions which failed to live up to anyone's expectations. Does anyone actually tune in to watch these things? If not, it's time to tone them down a notch or two....

The commercials were alright. A few good ones, a few dumb ones. A lot of them were open to interpretation and not real cut-and-dried - kind of like the officials' calls all night.

I am a huge Steelers fan, but I have to admit that the Steelers benefitted from a few tough calls. I won't go so far as to say the officials gave the game to the Steelers, but some of the calls they made were very questionable.

The PI penalty was legit. Ticky tacky, but still a penalty. Had he not extended his arm, right in front of the official, it never would have been called.

The holding penalty was legit - also ticky tacky, but he was holding him. Yes, there were probably more blatent holding violations committed and not flagged, but this one was holding.

Ben's TD was called correctly. The ball broke the plane, if only by an inch or two.

Jackson's near TD at the end of the first half should have been reviewed. ABC should have shown more replays than they did, it was VERY close.

Re: Ben's timeout before the delay penalty. It is possible that someone else called the timeout before Ben did. Without seeing the entire field and bench, it's impossible to know.

Seattle played a great game and just came up short of knocking the Steelers off. It is now Tuesday morning. I am almost completely over my hangover.......

They are showing the victory parade in Pittsburgh on ESPN News. A reporter walked up to Antwaan Randle El and calls him Willie, thinking it's Willie Parker. Randle El got so pissed he refused to talk to him even though the reporter apologized to him over and over. :slappy:

Absolutely agreed. He extended his arm and he definitely created separation with the shove. That, my friends, is a penalty.

There are penalties on every friggin play. Watch the O-line for a change and tell me that most of them don't hold on every play from scrimmage. Same for blocking WRs. In close situations like that, they should be flagged if they created an advantage for the offending player or if they changed the outcome of the play. Touching another player is obviously not always pass interference. It was a judgment call and the official made a poor judgment, putting himself above the players and the game. It was also a late call that was made right after the badly beaten Pittsburgh safety went up to the official and pleaded for a bail out call.

I think Ben got in on his run; whether he did or not, it was too close to overturn the all-important ruling on the field. They got that one right.

I did think it was interesting that the ref originally marked him down, then changed his mind...I'm not going to go any further with it than that.

And I don't think anyone denies Seattle held, probably every time they called it...it's just a supreme joke that Pittsburgh didn't get called for it a single time. I didn't care who won, but zero holding? Don't think so.

While I don't think it should have been called, I absolutely understand why the referee threw the flag. I don't think Jackson gained a meaningful advantage over the DB with the arm extension. Even if Jackson hadn't touched him, I don't believe Hope could have made a play on the ball.
Anyhow, it looked to me like Hope was already leaning the wrong way, so when Jackson's arm extended, it seemed like Jackson firmly pushed him in that direction.

Just my thought. I think it was the wrong call, but at full speed, I probably would have flagged Jackson, too.
