So I'm sittin' at my desk today, minding my own business, when my boss walks in and hands me a Fed Ex box. Apparently Joanna bought me an Adaptec 2010S RAID controller? :p

Yeah, NewEgg is all screwed up. Somehow that was sent to you, *instead* of replacement dimms to us.

Just hang on to it, as of yesterday they said they were trying to recall it. Or perhaps we can figure out how to get them to send you a prepaid return shipping label.

Nothing's ever easy.

Lol, I knew the site would be okay around 300 users with 2gb. And it will fly with 4 up to like 600-800 I think.

The stats engine is going to magnify our overhead by a factor of 3-4 though, so that's when we're really going to stress this machine out. It should be fine, I think.

Some day down the road we may want to buy a twin, one to serve web, the other mysql, but that's a good long ways off -- and honestly, as a niche site, we may never have to worry about that level of traffic.

8gb was always considered overkill, but 2 is below where we want to be. You guys did a great job talking through to a final spec, and I think we're in great shape.

I think most people wanted the 8 gigs to cover the overhead of your signature BMax. :tongue2:

Naw, just reduce it a bit BMax. I might be losing it, but it looks like it's been reduced already (from the original size). Everyone likes to give you a bit of grief, but I think with the new server online it's OK. A 1MB sig with the old server was a bit too much ... thank God I'm wasn't on a dial up connection.

Yeah I dropped it to about half what it was. I guess 1 meg is a bit much. I just dont wanna piss anybody off I guess. More worried about the dialup people than the server now of course.

Yep look down in the Open forum, there is a thead about it. Also in the administration forum.

i hadnt looked in awhile, but right now we have 233 people online and this thing is humming right along. i know zero tech specs, but i can remember when 100 would kill the old one. good work guys.

This server should be able to handle 1000 without any problem's I'm guessing.

I know the server has hit at least 340 today, so everything looks good so far.
