If it's not Buckeye football, it's not football. Now i've said that;

Yesterday my nine-year-old step-son's youth baseball team practiced at a public park. I ignored watching him play second base and practice his pitching motion because I was more enamored watching the eleven-year-olds at an adjacent football field run gassers and walk through some iso plays.

It's September. It's in the 60s before the sun has completely set. The cool breeze blows and the leaves rustle. The Japanese Magnolia tree in my backyard is ready to explode into a beautiful plume of white and violet petals, which is a harbinger of three things: autumn, football, and six weeks of raking under that fucking tree. The pads cracking and snot bubbles blowing means it's football, even when it's a bunch of eleven-year-olds.

I've been walking around all week singing Christmas carols, "It's the most ... wonderful time ... of the year!" and doing my best Spongebob Squarepants impersonation, "Iiiii'm ready! Iiiii'm ready! Iiiii'm ready!"
