Crap... I feel a duel coming on.

Oh well...

*ahem*

Listen, man. I'm sorry. I don't want to be swinging schwartzes with you right now. We just had our son, and you know how things go for the man a few months before the birth and for a couple after. I just can't compare.

Forget I said anything. Thus,

"Yes, Uncle AKAK... we'll be good... we love you... even though you're a condescending jackass"

Well...

I guess there's no need for these, then.

Sometimes these elitist Admins need to be put in their place. (Which in BKB's case is most likely a bar stool or a hash bar)

As to "I guess if you read the sentence by itself..." I guess you missed me saying I realized it was out of context?

Actually, I did miss the first statement above the quotes--sorry about that, I didn't even see it. However, to be fair, you did state in the second paragraph after the quotes that you were considering the context.

Regardless, I call truce.

True, and it was that part of my post which you were most willing to call on point, though you said it still missed the mark.

With regard to the context of the John quote:
First, it's fair to note, no one brought it forth in the context of the discussion regarding personal responsibility/accountability. I did that because it seemed to fit. You used the quote in another context entirely and I simply latched on to it.

I stand by the context remarks I made. Of course, you and I have a serious disconnect in evaluating that Context for one simple reason- I do not believe Jesus did anything with the Holy Spirit for those folks and you do. As I mentioned, it's not anything but a personal choice to accept or deny this tale. It's easy for me to say "I am being moved by the HS to type this" and it's just as easy for you to call "bullshit" on such a remark. I don't know if there really is any way for you to ever establish to me that the HS was involved in any of this.... It's really a matter of faith. A faith which I do not have. More to the point - I do not believe in a G-d who "selects" a chosen few to do "special" things and elevates them above his brother(s). In my mind, G-d sees each of us as "special" and would move me personally rather than some other alternative.

Now, it's true that I don't have the same "handle" on the NT as you do. This, of course, should be obvious in as much as I don't have any reason to come to know the text backwards and forwards because the bulk of it is wholly useless for me in my spiritual journey. (That is, I'm not Christian, so I wouldn't spend a whole lot of time on it, just as my ignorance of the Koran is extreme) Knowing this, I wouldn't purport to state unequivocally what any passage means. With that said, you're welcome to try and explain it to me and how it should be understood. Though, without overcoming the more fundamental reason(s) why I reject Christianity the exercise is academic.

The primary question I think I need to have answered before I'd be willing to buy any of the NT tales is - Why? Why do I need a third party savior to forgive me of my deeds? I've never seen a satisfactory answer (to me). I've always had a great deal of success simply discussing my sin, or whatever, with G-d himself. So... I guess I just don't see the need for Jesus' role in my life. As such, alternative answers to the question are up against a high bar indeed.

Just saw the "Truce" part. Agreed.
