Official Bengals Draft Thread

Safety uses hits to make impact
Round four: Marvin White, S, TCU
BY KEVIN KELLY | [email protected]

Marvin White plays defense with the intention of terrifying receivers that dare cross his patch of the football field.
"I'm aggressive out there," White said. "I'm going to let it be known I'm going to hit out there, and nobody will come through my zone because I'm going to lay you out with a big hit."
The Bengals want their defense to be known for being physical.

Can Nevada QB adapt from shotgun style?
Round five: Jeff Rowe, QB, Nevada
BY KEVIN KELLY | [email protected]

1x1.gif

The Bengals impressed Jeff Rowe with a no-nonsense approach during a pre-draft workout with the Nevada quarterback.
A number of physical attributes, along with the chance to develop a young quarterback, attracted the Bengals enough that on Sunday they selected Rowe in the fifth round of the NFL Draft.
"I'm excited to learn from Carson (Palmer)," Rowe said. "He's awesome, one of the best quarterbacks in the league. I think it's just a good place to come into the league and learn."

This big Duck can run down fast backs
Round six: Matt Toeaina, DT, Oregon
BY KEVIN KELLY | [email protected]

1x1.gif

Bengals defensive line coach Jay Hayes watched last season's game between Oregon and Oklahoma as part of his overall evaluation of Matt Toeaina.
The Oregon senior started at defensive end.
"The running back from Oklahoma made a run and cut to the outside and Matt ran with him step for step and ended up tackling him," Hayes said. "I thought that was pretty athletic for a guy that's 310 pounds to be able to do that with the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy at the time."

"
The best known college free agent the Bengals have signed? Probably Florida linebacker Earl Everett, the Gators? two-time tackling champion for the defending national champions best known for his helmetless sack of Troy Smith in the beheading of Ohio State in the national title game. "

It's bad enough the Bengals have recently passed up some of my Buckeye favorites in the draft, but this goes way too far IMO. I can understand if they were from a state other than OHIO. However they are not and their fan base is probably made up of a large portion of Buckeye fans. I'd try not pissing them off with such statements if I was them. Of course, this is after they choose a 2nd rate corner from TSUN.

Link? Is that from a Cincy website?

I'm sure it is not....probally from some draftsite that has been listing the free agent signings.

As for him claiming he isnt going to being a pissed of fan....good, get off the bus, tired of all these so called fans anymore anyway.

okay found the link...it is from Bengals website. But the wording goes along with the idea that he did not have a helmet on at the time of the picture in the story. Either way...really a non story.

The least? Probably Georgetown College quarterback Jeff Smith, a local product from Newport, Ky., Catholic Central who finished 12th in the nation in total offense at the NAIA school that hosts the Bengals at training camp in Kentucky.

I agree it is a non-story, just curious. A professional team is going to draft/sign whomever they think will help their team regardless of where they played college ball.

Well, they can help redress that posture by keeping Stan White on the roster (though unseating Jeremi Jonhson will be a tough gig).

True, but White could be used also as an H-Back/Tight End as well.

Hell, I like some of these free agent pickups better than some of our late draft picks, especially Everett, Kays, Jackson, and Uperesa.

I was reading some comments and it sounded like the Bengals considered getting Everett like an extra draft pick. It was the first guy they went after to join the team.

As far as white he could file into a TE type spot, since we have hardley any with experience on the Roster.

This is just ignorant. If you want off, get off. The Bengals are going to do what is best for the team, not picking names that will make fans happy. What really makes fans happy is marks in the W side of the box. If Hall, Everett and every other hated rival of tOSU gets the job done for us, then so be it. If these players bring a mix of skill and class to our club, I welcome you with open arms. Hell, if Joakim Noah could be a deep threat for us, I'd say sign his ass too.

College is the past for these guys. I thank each and every Buckeye for the joy they brought into my life on Saturdays, however I am now rooting for the future success of Hall and Everett more than I am of the success of Troy Smith, Ted Ginn, AG, AP, QP and every other Buckeye Alumn combined.
