That's a great article...until you remember that USC suffered arguably the worst loss in the history of college football this season.

Maybe Stanford is the best team in the country.

[Mark May]Why do you keep bringing that up? John David Booty broke his middle finger!!!!![/Mark May]

ESPN - SEC enjoying stellar bowl season, but will it continue in BCS title game? - College Football

NEW ORLEANS -- As the red and black confetti floated to the Superdome turf early Wednesday morning, Georgia senior defensive end Marcus Howard said what the rest of the SEC has been spouting for years.

"The SEC is the best conference in the nation," Howard said. "You see all these teams winning bowl games. If you want to play the best football, come to the SEC."

Of course, there was one qualifier.

Howard's not convinced the right SEC team will be playing in the Allstate BCS National Championship Game on Monday night. He still believes Georgia was more deserving than LSU and points to the Bulldogs' 41-10 dismantling of Hawaii in the Allstate Sugar Bowl and their seven-game winning streak to end the season as proof.

Here's the bigger issue the talking asses... err heads.... need to address:

If USC really is the best team in the country, then aren't they to blame for blowing it to a team like Stanford? I'm a playoff guy, but just maybe it's not the BCS' fault that the mighty Trojans couldn't show up to beat a shitty team.

If Georgia really is the best team in the country, then aren't they to blame for allowing a mediocre Tennessee team to take a 35-0 lead on them on the way to a 35-14 blowout win? Maybe, just maybe the BCS is not to blame for their ineptitude that day.

What do I know? These are just the ramblings of a nobody internet poster trying to interject logic into the discussion.

Actually the BCS slipped Stanford and Tennessee steriods before the game to help them win, there really is no other excuse those teams win.
They wanted this controversy at the end of the year and knew it would come down to UGA and USC and strategically picked those 2 games to pull it off...

sneaky BCS bastards.

Agreed.

Sure Booty broke a finger. So they lost to Stanford.
Wells injured his ankle AND his hand. That didn't stop him.

I too am a playoff guy. But in a way this season didnt do much for the playoff argument. I mean, who would want to do anything to deter from the amazing season we had? If we all knew stanford beating usc wouldnt matter because sc could just redeem themselves in the playoffs, then who would give a shit?

They can argue that sc is the "best team in the country". But, given the situation, they did not do what it takes to prove that. OSU and LSU did. And the winner of that game is legitimatley the best. And Ill put my money on the buckeyes:biggrin:

The talking heads will respond by saying that these are the two teams playing the best football now. Which may or may not be true but with the current system it isn't about now it is about the whole season.

Come to think of it we should go back and claim our stake in the 2005 NC. We were playing as good if not better than either Texas or USC at that time too. Makes perfect sense to me.

Perfect

Just perfect

An article that uses transitive analysis in a vain attempt to make a point and with no apparent awareness of how silly they look, thus inadvertently proving how worthless transitive analysis really is (to say nothing of the writer's opinion)...

And an article that purposefully demonstrates that THIS YEAR, more than any that preceded it, proved just how worthless transitive analysis really is.

I just hope that our players don't talk about how we didn't get any respect and it was us against the world in post game interviews. I hope they talk about how they came and took care of business. Watching Michigan and WVU players talking about how no one gave them a chance post game was pretty obnoxious.
