Official 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs Discussion Thread

Pens are up 2-0 now, although I'm a little concerned since they blew a 3-0 lead last night. Still a very good performance by the offense as a whole. They generated 54 shots last night!!! Crosby with 4 Assists last night, Malkin had 3 assists. Next game is in Ottawa

GO PENS!

wings up 2-0 in the series, but if you listened to the NBC broadcast, you would think that Nashville was the team with the President's trophy and Detroit was the team that barely got into the playoffs :shake:

Or you would think that Nashville should have been leading the entire time....reality is that Detroit missed about 7 wide open nets AND the two Nashville goals came after an EXTREMELY questionable holding the stick call on Hasek (as in, I don't know how the hell Hasek held the guys' stick with the back of his leg)...

Or that Barry Trotz is anything like a competent coach....because all he's done is whine the entire series....

oh well....

Dallas is playing some fantastic hockey so far in the playoffs. The Ducks scored two goals in the second period of tonight's game, but aside from that, they haven't done much. Even in the second period in which they scored twice, they had only a handful of shots, if that.

Kind of surprising. I expected the Ducks to be tough.

ohio state product rj umberger scored again today (2).

Dave Steckel got 11 minutes of ice time for the Caps in that game, too. Nice to see some OSU guys out there. :)

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIZdg8Smm78]YouTube - Flames Cory Sarich destroys Partick Marleau (Better version)[/ame]

I actually woke up the wifey yelling WOW at that one

And essentially that was the turning point of the game. Calgary down 3-0 at the time and essentially looking at going down 2-1 and having to win another game at the Tank....

BTW Anaheim is down 2-0 (ain't karma a bitch Pronger (sorry OC)) and San Jose is down 2-1. It's looking better and better for the Wings

Pens are now up 3-0. Ottawa came out fired up, but the pens weathered the storm. After the 2nd period it was 1-1. 2 quick goals 1:18 into the 3rd sealed the deal. Solid game overall by the whole team. MAF has been very good throughout the whole series.

Bring out the brooms, I'm smelling sweep!

Goals last night by Talbot, Crosby, Stall, and Hossa.

LET'S GO PENS!

Very nice win by the Pens. Aside from Whitney's blunder on the Sens goal, it might have been the best defensive game thay've played this year. The crowd was loud the first period and it seemed most of the period was played in the Pens defensive end, but they came out of the period with a scoreless tie after taking all that the Sens had.

I'm not sure what has happened to Redden, Heatey and Spezza in the series but they've all been non-existant most of the series.

Nice to see the NHL act so quickly on that Sean Avery Bullshit. I don't know how Brodeur didn't just plant his paddle in Avery's nuts.

I'm looking forward to watching the Flyers-Caps game tonight.

Now that I've had about a day to think about it, I'm still wondering how many more examples coaches need to NOT sit back when you have a lead late in the game?

Hell we have a few just in the past couple days....

Memphis vs. Kansas.

Better yet, Ohio State vs. Ole Miss in the 2nd half. ohio State was up big at halftime let's remember and Ole Miss made a game out of it.

Last night was a similar circumstance. Detroit rips off to a 1-0 and then eventually 2-0 lead. Hasek looks great. They are skating well, passing well everything.

Then they let up. Nashville scores two goals and just like that it's 2-2.

No big deal, that's hockey. Datsyuk shows why he could one day score 50 goals if he only shot it more to make it 3-2. So what does cockBab do? The Box and friggin 1! Of course!! Why didn't I think of that one :smash:

Nashville won the game. I still think Detroit in 5 (they could have very easily won game 3 if they had kept the pedal to the metal), but if this series goes back to Detroit tied at 2, I don't know if Detroit can get out of the first round - AGAIN.

SJ took a 3-0 lead in game 3 and lost 4-3.

Last night, Cal-gary had a 2-1 lead with less than 5 minutes left and they lost 3-2.

At least the Avs got a quick 3-0 lead and continued to pile it on last night.
