Offensive Line - 2004/05

I thought Boone played well Saturday. In fact except for the 2 Clipping? penalties I think there was only 1 holding penalty on the O-Line! We need a break out day for the running back and perhaps a touchdown or two for Pittman

I thought Boone played very well these past 2 games - EXPECIALLY for a true freshman. I also believe it was 1 illegal block on Boone and then another illegal block on a different lineman. His missed block and illegal blocks were the worst things about his performance and I would say thats pretty good.

Boone was dominate in run blocking and solid in pass blocking all game, I definitely prefer his overall play than certain others.

The kid is the real deal. Look how many time he is way down field head hunting when there is hardly another O-State Lineman around. Barton was the other lineman that I noticed with the same tendency.

If Kirk Barton Returns then how do you think are Offensive Line will look rolling into Minnesota? Let's be honest Alex Boone is going to be hard to remove from the playing field and Kirk, in my opinion, was playing the best on the line prior to his injury.

Here is guessing that they use Boone splitting time with Datish and Barton - 50/50. Keep Datish fresh, Barton coming off injury, and Boone learning.

He did play well, but there was one play where he got burned and Troy got sacked pretty hard.

No doubt though, he will be dominant in years to come.

I think I remember the play you are referencing. It was actually an X pass rush by the defense. The guard next to Boone possibly missed the assignment and the D-end snuck through while the D-tackle was double-teamed by our guard and Boone. The DE got to Smith as Troy was beginning to take off. I'm not an O-line guru and another poster, possibly 21 can discuss the responsibility on X pass rushes.

How about 5 - I'm starting to feel bad for the kid. he get's beat to hell, gets us to the 2, but just can't seem to get in... :(

My wife and I are growing to be really big Pittman fans, and for teh last 4 games, we've been saying "This will be the game."

God he got so close against Indiana and Michigan State!

My answer to the thread title is I would stick Boone at LT and Barton at RT. Have Datish come off the bench for either one of them.

I think that Datish is the weakest link right now, he did play a helluva a game against MSU, but didnt follow up with a great game against IU. He gave up 2 sacks I believe and let his guy get pressure 2 or 3 more times. Also on the sack Boone gave up, If his guy wouldnt of got there, Datish's would have.

I think Boone just has it, and I seen him make some great blocks, he does a very good job on getting up to the second level and taking on the lb's.

There was also the toss sweep where he pulled and did a good job of picking up the flowing lb, If pittman would of ran outside of the block Mangold made, the block Boone had on the backer would of aloud Pitt to take it on up the sidelines for a big gain.

Agreed. I'll add that Boone and Datish each were flagged for clipping, so that's a wash if you're trying to decide between the two.

Has anyone heard about Kirk Barton condition? Wasn't it just a strained knee?

I'm really stoked to see him and Boone dominating together.

With the vision and apparent power Pittman has been showing, I think we need him and Mo. Wells to crack open a truly special game on the ground.

I beleive if we win out this year it will be because of the improvement in the running game.

Too bad Steve Rerhing got sick this year. The line next year with Rerhing at Left Gaurd, Barton at Left Tackle, TJ at Right Gaurd and Boone at Right Tackle gives me goosebumps!!! These guys are truly Monsters!!!!

No real clue on who plays center, maybe Cordle?..Datish?.....

:oh: :io:

Wasn't Datish the offensive player of the game 2 weeks ago? He must not be playing too bad in the eyes of the coaches. I'd look for Datish to move down to LG next season and Boone and Rehring to fight over LT. As for the rest of this season I see them splitting time.

Rehring is too tall to play guard. It's better to have shorter guys inside. Personally, I see Boone at LT and Rehring at RT in the future, but Barton has 2 years left so the future is a long way off. The other two have 3 years left after this season. As a former tackle I would hate to get moved back and forth like you are suggesting with Barton. I was much better as an LT than an RT, it was just easier for me to move on the left. Unfortunately (for them, not the fans or the team) it looks like we have 3 good tackles and only 2 positions to play them. I suppose if none of the younger OL step up at guard or center Rehring would be the most likely to move to guard, but that position wouldn't fit him very well.

I agree but he was moved on the depth chart before getting sick. I know someone (who follows the Buckeyes but not real close) that spoke to Steve's father just prior to said depth chart being released and he was talking about him playing guard.

From what I've seen Boone and Barton are a little quicker than Rehring, while Rehring is bigger and probably better at driving people out of the way than the other 2. Of the three tackles Rehring is the one I would move to guard, but that isn't his best position. Maybe they will move Datish to center next year and put Boone and Rehring on the left side. I wonder if a QB can see from behind a line that big.
