Offensive Line - 2004/05

No real clue on who plays center, maybe Cordle?..Datish?.....

Cordle will start at center next year. Before he was injured, he was the 2nd string C behind Mangold, and the coaches raved about him this spring. They even moved former 2nd string C Steve Winner to RT (to back up Kirk Barton) just so they could make room for Cordle at C! Not bad for a true frosh. If Datish doesn't move to LG next year, look for him to be the 6th man on the line. I don't think T is his ideal position.

I said in my thread that he had a good game against MSU, but he followed it up with a not so good performance against IU. I just think that Boone is showing that he is one helluva a tackle and I think he needs to be in there. No offense to Datish, but Boone is just the prototypical left tackle and he has been doing a good job.

I wonder if a QB can see from behind a line that big.
It's official then. Troy Smith has been eliminated from next year's QB race due to being too short. Rob Schoenhoft at 6' 6" has emerged as the obvious leader, with Todd Boeckman in a close second at 6' 5". Zwick is going to have to do some growing in the off season, at ONLY 6' 4", in order to compete with these two giants.

I agree but he was moved on the depth chart before getting sick. I know someone (who follows the Buckeyes but not real close) that spoke to Steve's father just prior to said depth chart being released and he was talking about him playing guard.

Before Steve got sick he was the next lineman in no matter who went down. Even if Mangold took a hit Datish slid over. (happened in the Miami game? maybe)

Funny everyone giving Boone (not taking anything away from him) props to starting as a true frosh as a 5 star recruit, if I remember correctly OSU had a 3 star true freshman start the same game not to long ago, and that was only after one person was "out" for that game.

I have been talking about this year. If we are going look to next year, I think we will see Steve man a guard position, or maybe even Barton.

I think the top 5 lineman will play and those will be Datish, Boone, Rehring, Barton, and Downing.

I knew you were talking about this year......

Thoughts on next year....

I disagree with Steve being a guard, but I dont mind people's opinions, only crappy thing is we have to wait almost a year to find out.

Cant forget Cordle, from what I hear, before he got hurt, he wasnt going to be the one getting redshirted.

Ex-Hawg what's your overall opinion of our Offensive Line progression so far this year and what Lineman have really stood out good or bad?

I know this is going to sound bad, but I haven't paid too much attention to the line. Hell, I screwed up when I tried to Tivo last weeks game and never even got to watch it. Damn Tivo listing said the game was on ESPN! My bit torrent of the game was running at 60 Kbps this morning so hopefully I'll get to watch it sometime.
To answer your question the best I can. Most of the problems I see with our OL are due to scheme and coaching. We don't seem to have very good of either which is causing problems. When I only get to watch a play once I want to watch the play rather than what the line is doing. To really see what the line is doing you have to watch a play 3 or 4 times.

Again the depth at the O line looks to be an issue as Tim Schaffer has again been moved from the defensive side of the ball to OT.

Where is Skinner? Where is Person? Are these guys progressing so slowly that Ohio State has to again shift guys from defense to offense, or is it a position specific thing (Schaffer has experience at tackle so lets move him)?

It's a little disconcerting to me when I see guys getting moved all over the place when talking about the O line.
