  • Found out today I got an assignment to Seoul, Korea.:groove: I've been trying to get over there for nine months now, and I'll be there mid-July. It's a nice cushy 7-4 Monday-Friday job which beats the hell outta the retarded hours I work here. Best part is, its only a 12 month tour, and I get to hand-pick my next assignment. Gonna be celebratin' tonight.

Better you than me. I always thought Korea was a craphole. Too damn cold, but if you aren't living in the field it shouldn't be too bad. Don't drink too much soju, that stuff is instant hangover juice.

I had the opposite view, at least of Seoul, when I visited there...I liked it quite a bit, but of course I was there in a different capacity. Good luck and stay safe!

Good luck. I understand that OB is a pretty decent beer. Is this a military posting or civilian?

Military...sorta. I'm active duty Air Force, but I will be doing weather support for a small Army detachment at the Seoul International Airport (AF weather does weather support for all the Army aviation units). From what i have heard it is a pretty cushy gig, as far as Korea and Army support goes.

Congrats. as well! Hope you can manage to burn (to DVD) all of the 2006 season!

This is definately the one downside! I had plans with friends to go down to Austin for the game...looks like that is off now :(. I'll probably be depending on BP to follow live and my folks to record the games for me next season. It's only one year. Hell, I spent three in England and got by.

SIA is quite a ways from Seoul proper IIRC, but since you're AF at such a small operating location, you won't be stuck in a dorm and will get to live on the economy. Between being on separate rations and getting COLA, you'll have enough won (that's Korean money for you Yankees, pronounced "wahn"). OB beer used to suck, but now it's pretty decent (not sure about Crown beer, though). Man...bulgolgi, kimchi, yakimandu, jampon, and all kinds of other good Korean food. You'll gain a shit-load of weight if you don't watch it.
