Oct 2 Coaches Poll (OSU 6th)

Bottom Line on Notre Dame is that they wont jump us this week after we take care of buisness in Happy Valley (and Tenn beats UGA) - we will move to #5. Next week the Domers play USC and we get Mich St. at home. If Nocla Dam can take out the Trojans Notre Dame will enter the top 8 easily and if OSU can beat MSU handly, we will stay ahead of Notre Dame at around the #3 position. MSU is the only team to have beaten Notre Dame which is why they wont jump us if we can take out MSU in a 7+ point margin. This will set us up greatly because even if Texas, VTech, FSU stay in front it will favor the Buckeyes.
FSU and VTech play each other which means one is an auto spot for the Bucks after the game and VTech is easily beatable with the right defense (hint: stop going into sone coverage on 3rd down against Vick! - rush him) and I think Miami can beat VTech.

The only REAL threat to Vince Young & crew (IMO) is TAMU. Its going to take a really tight coverage and A++ game by OU to stay in it this week. Oklahoma has yet to pose a serious challege - but hey ANYTHING can happen in a game like this (ie. Michigan-OSU rivalries).

OSUs schedule also is MUCH harder than VaTech's. They play friggin Big East (who is having a VERY bad year) teams up the wazzoo. This week will be OSUs 3rd Top 25 team and then the following week will be OSUs 4th Top 25 team in 6 outings. I think Michigan will be ranked at years end which should give OSU a big leap at the closing.

Wanna return to Mili's assertion that we win out and everything takes care of itself and the subsequent debate about a one-loss Texas team.

If Ohio State wins out and shows up with an offense, then Texas loses late, then the argument is that Ohio State played with their second string quarterback (sorry Justin fans) and have thus are a much better team than earlier in the year, when they lost by three and should have won.

That we are ranked higher now than we were at the beginning of the year despite one loss says it all for me.

These next two games will be tough but we can win them. If we win out, we will have beaten some very good teams on anyone's dance card. Our strength of schedule from here on out is among the top five in division 1, if you rattle through some of the computer ratings (Marsee lists it on a separate page but his ratings regime is not to my liking, as it ranks offense too highly).

So, I think Mili is right. Win out and get some luck with the undefeateds, and we should be in with one heck of a chance.

While I'd like to go to Pasadena, how sweet would it be to beat USC in a BCS bowl game? OSU, UT, VT all win out, and USC drops one game. If we can't get to the title game, what a great way to send out teh seniors (esp defense) by staying with the unstoppable USC offense.

They're 6-2 for the last 8 games against the Big-10. 4-2 over the last 10 to 15 years (no games between 1988 and the 1997 Rose Bowl).
hey, thanks for looking that up... greenies for you...

anyway, may point was that ASU would be competitive in the Big Ten, and while the 6-2 record is not entirely indicitive of what it would be like for them to play a full season slate, it DOES indicate that they would compete...

what the game on Sat against SC showed me was that 'SC can MOST CERTAINLY be beat, but you can't make any mistakes against them, or they will make you pay... 5 turnovers is way too many against ANY good team, let alone the Trojans...

How about this- VaTech, FSU and Georgia and all other highly ranked teams lose 2 games, except for these 4:
Texas, USC, tOSU, Notre Dame
Texas loses to OU, wins out from there and plays a one loss USC in the Rose Bowl (lost to Notre Dame).
tOSU and Notre Dame both win out and play in the Fiesta (or whatever bowl it would be).
USC beats Texas close.
tOSU whips Notre Dame.

Or how about this:
I stop thinking up these scenarios and actually get some work done?

Yes, it could happen. We lost our only top-10 game this year, most likely. In that scenario, tennessee will have beaten #4 LSU, #4 Georgia, and a highly-regarded ND team.

don't feel like going back and looking at the last eight games, but ASU is 2-0 against Big Ten teams in their last two meetings...

The original point of bringing up ASU was in the discussion of how USC beat them this week. Accordingly, the only ASU team that's relevant here is this year's team. ASU is 1-0 against the Big Ten this year, as they beat Northwestern in Tempe. What an accomplishment. For the record, that's the same Northwestern team that's currently 2-2 with its 2 wins over Northern Illinois (who lost to Akron) and Ohio U. You're right--there is proof ASU would fare well in the Big Ten this year. :shake:

What a stupid post. You made lv's point and tried to make him look stupid at the same time. Are you high?
Arizona State lost to LSU by 4 and USC by 10. They beat the only Big 10 team they've played, by 31. I'd say that is proof they would do ok in the Big 10.
They didn't play Ohio U, they played Oregon State, and beat them 42-24.
Try this ruby necklace on and let me know how it fits.

Check your reading skills, fella. I said that the previous post was in error for claiming that ASU could fare well in the Big Ten this year, because it claimed that ASU had done well against the Big Ten in previous years. That's just bad logic. The only evidence there is that ASU would do well against the Big Ten this year is its drubbing of Northwestern. And I claimed that the Northwestern win is not impressive b/c Northwestern is only 2-2, with their wins coming against Ohio U and Northern Illinois. Do you yet understand, or is it still too complicated and you want me to explain for the third time? By the way, nice posturing with the feedback--that's VERY mature.
