Oct 2 Coaches Poll (OSU 6th)

I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised that we are at #6. I figured we might drop a spot, I thought Alabama might jump us, and that LSU might not fall behind us considering that their wasn't a poll after their loss. Its nice to see, but be prepared for Alabama to jump us soon if they don't lose.

Won't happen. Look at the votes...especially in the AP poll, tOSU is closer to the 4 spot than the 7 spot is to us. In other words, there are fewer votes between us moving to 4th than there are between us and the team ranked right below us. That is, if I can add. No, unlike what many Bucks fans have learned to accept, the national media is NOT hating on the Bucks this year. They are respected, and even with a loss are considered to still be one of the best teams in the country. It's just that USC gets all the real love...

I don't think ND can beat USC. I don't think Cal or UCLA can either. I still think they could drop a game, but the best chance to do that was this last weekend at Sun Devil Stadium. And, as much as I hate USC, I'm honestly not sure if I could physically root for the domers...

No way in hell does ND run the table. Reality check, fellas. Purdue isn't that good. We were all saying that before the season started. Neither is scUM. This is still the same basic domer team that sucked ass last year, they just have a new coach. Any other team in the country would be ranked 20th at best, but they're Notre Dame, the Princess of the press. Are they a good squad? Yeah, they're decent...but they're not one of the 15 best teams in the country.

My fear it will be ND that will beat SC. If ND only has one loss they could jump us.

You can go to the bank with that statement. Take a scenario where ND and Texas win out... I don't care what anyone else does, that will be the Rose Bowl match up... and though I am loath to say anything positive about ND, they'd deserve it if they got by Tennessee and USC.

Please note, the following is totally unfounded opinion: General rules that should apply to the polls... no one outside the Big 10, Pac 10, SEC, Big 12 and ND may be placed in the top 5... basis: strength of schedule and league... only one team from the ACC/Big East/MWC/MAC may be placed in the top 10 at any time during the year. Only two teams from the Big East may even be mentioned in the polls. The first place ACC team should be required to play the #2 team in the Big 10 or SEC to validate their bowl position.

The Domers are back. Saying their Competition sucks is turning a blind eye. If they beat USC, it will be them vs Texas and not us. OSU is in a tough situation, right now.
If they beat USC they will still lose another game or two. They just aren't that good. They are in a good position to beat USC (at least in a better position than anyone else on USC's schedule) but they are a 15-25 ranked team at best.

I hate hearing how invinceable USC is. Are they the best team by far? Clearly. But they play NOBODY with a defense. Watching those long runs by Bush and Lendale, if the MLB didn't blow at least one of those would have been stopped.

They aren't 2 time champs. They played an overrated UM squad in a non title bowl, and then the AP poll felt bad for them. It was proof that teh BCS blows, but that was our system. They also hang their hat on playing Auburn that year, who was a 7-5 team in 03. USC was great last year, and beat VTech, that's a great championship year.

USC is NOT invinceable if they play OSU, UT, or VTech. All three have the weapons on offense to score enough to win, and all three can matchup defensively.

They'll face a tough ND team, again without a defense, and be hailed as even more invinceable.

They have teh best skill positions in a long time. But without a defense, they are getting way too much hype. What I am dreading is if USC loses a close game, they will stay ahead of OSU despite our loss to Texas.

I don't think ND will win out, but Tenn played awful against LSU. I think Weis will pick them apart. A lot of LSU's big plays (runs bounced outside, broken passing plays), showed Tennessee players quitting when they thought the play was over.

At what point can we stop annointing the SEC as a great defensive conference? Alabama is incredible, I'll give you that. But Florida, LSU, and Tennessee are very overrated defensively. They can still be highly ranked, but they have serious flaws.

The MLB play was bad, but the safety play was absolutely horrendous. On each of those long runs by USC, the Ariz. St. safety would come flying up to the play only to totally whiff on the RB. That kind of safety play is bush league and doesn't get it done against a good defensive team.

As for your second point listed above, I entirely agree. I've been saying all along that AT BEST, they've won 1.5 championships in a row, NOT 2. And, as you point out, their last game in '03 wasn't even against one of the top 3 teams in the nation.

USC is the media darling, and why? Because they beat up on inferior Pac-10 talent every year. There's no west coast bias. The west coast is just weak. Ariz. St. would be lucky to go 4-4 in the 8-game Big Ten season.
