This is brilliant logic. :shake: So you're saying that as long as a team beats any Big Ten team by 31, then it's conclusive that that team would do well in the Big Ten? Brilliant.
You might want to take your own advice and check your reading skills. He said 'do ok' not 'do well'. So, now that you've read his actual post, can a team do ok if they beat a big10 team by 30?

So what exactly do you need as proof that they would do well? Do they have to schedule OSU, UM and Iowa every year and beat them for 10 years before you'll give them credit? Cuz that's how it sounds.

They knocked off Iowa last year, and have been a very solid team. That is proof that they would do well. It's not a reach at all to suggest that they could be a second tier team like MSU, Wisconsin, or Purdue.

Maybe. Maybe not. It's not conclusive. Just beating one Big Ten team by a lot (especially an unproven team such as NW) doesn't mean much in my book.

Check your reading skills, fella. I said that the previous post was in error for claiming that ASU could fare well in the Big Ten this year, because it claimed that ASU had done well against the Big Ten in previous years. That's just bad logic. The only evidence there is that ASU would do well against the Big Ten this year is its drubbing of Northwestern. And I claimed that the Northwestern win is not impressive b/c Northwestern is only 2-2, with their wins coming against Ohio U and Northern Illinois. Do you yet understand, or is it still too complicated and you want me to explain for the third time? By the way, nice posturing with the feedback--that's VERY mature.
Yes, you are correct, I misread the part about Northwestern's wins.
Although I would like you to explain yourself for a third time, because you still don't make your point.
What evidence do you have that ASU wouldn't do well against the Big 10? You said they'd be lucky to go 4-4 in the Big 10, why do you think that? Because they lost to #1 USC by 10, and then #4 (5) LSU by 4? Should we just listen to you and ignore the fact that you have no basis for your claim because you have such a good reputation around here ?
I love it when people say "that's very mature"....it reminds me of this really cute girl that was in my 4th grade class.

so when you look at teams in CFB, you never look at their past performances (like MSU choking)? By your logic, you are being equally extreme in your claims... you're stating that ASU can't be called good b/c they only beat NW this year. If ASU can stay with USC & LSU, they can certainly handle most teams in the big ten.

Do you realize how shaky our second tier teams are (Purdue, MSU, etc)? They are hardly spotless examplse of perfection.

That's what many are suggesting here, that they could become another team in the Big ten that has decent success.

Wow, again with the reputation thing. That's not getting old or anything. :shake: . Let's see...ASU is 3-2 this year, with wins over Temple (0-5), Northwestern (2-2, with wins over Northern Illinois and Ohio U), and Oregon St. (3-2 with wins over Portland St., Boise St., and Washington St.). My argument in a nutshell: ASU is just like every other "good" Pac-10 team--they compile a decent record in the regular season b/c there's only one real team in the conference, USC, and by doing so, they trick you into thinking they're a good team. I'm not convinced ASU is any good. And please don't bring up the fact that they were decent last year to support your argument--you can ask Iowa how much such an argument works.

Last time replying to your idiocy:
Arizona State lost to LSU by 4 and USC by 10. They beat the only Big 10 team they've played, by 31. I'd say that is proof they would do ok in the Big 10.
That was the original paragraph I typed.
Were you saying "this is brilliant logic" in a talking-to-myself-to-get-pumped-up kind of way, or to what I said....which you didn't quote correctly?

Let's look at this vaunted BigTen that would destroy them, and make them .500 every year in conference play.

OSU - Obviously we're good.
Michigan - no defense, need Hart to win, have to win in a shootout everytime.
Michigan State - did they turn it around? They lost that game... even with a great Hart performance, they went out of their way to not capitalize on tons of opportunities. If you can slow down their offense, their defense will let you do whatever.
Iowa - extremely overrated, fold against decent opponents. Iowa State was not that good of an opp, and they took it to Iowa (even before Tate got injured).
Purdue - hyped again, and failing again. Where is this incredible purdue defense we heard about? They are somewhat good, at best.
Minny - same old minny, just took an extra week to come back to reality.
Wisconsin - tough. Elite? We'll see, but they are good.
Indiana - they're indiana.
Penn St - tough defense, but I think their offense will be exposed once they finally play a good team.
NW - they beat them.

Victories: Minny, Indiana, Illinois, NW
Could Win: MSU, Iowa, Purdue
Wash: Penn St, UM
Could lose: Wisconsin
Should lose: OSU

I see at least 5-6 wins every year, barring rebuilding years of course (ie you wouldn't say OSU is a 4-4 team, tho we were bad last year).

Why can't I use the Iowa game last year? That was a pretty decent Iowa team, who TRASHED osu early in the year, but ASU took it to Iowa to the tune of 44-7.

Iowa was a top-10 team. Destroying them should mean they can play with almost anyone in the big ten.

tOSU and Notre Dame both win out and play in the Fiesta (or whatever bowl it would be).

There is NO WAY, No fucking Way, zero, zip, nada, nein, way we would EVER get the chance to play Notre Dame in a bowl game unless both programs had off years and the Motor City bowl didn't want to see Michigan State/Minnesota/Illinois play the MAC champ. If Notre Dame beats Michigan, Purdue and loses in OT to MSU they become the Midwest Regional Champs unless OSU goes undefeated in the Big 10. If Wiscy or PSU would win out, they would still be placed behind ND in the polls. Ask yourself this; where are most of the votes in any poll? Answer; not in the Midwest.

BCS Media Guide

Ok, I had a long response about the possible tOSU vs ND matchup in the Fiesta Bowl written and all it accomplished was to confuse myself. The amount of research neccesary to make that prediction is not going to happen at 3:30am. However, it would surprise me if the Fiesta would want us again (3 of the last 4 years) unless it was such an appealing matchup that they couldn't resist. However, I would guess if they did want us, there would be a lot of pressure to have a great match up like this (speaking economically at the moment) moved to the Sugar Bowl for obvious reasons. Just my feelings here. It's a strange situation this year and with the Sugar Bowl getting the last priority pick of games according to the Media Guide, and having the risk of having to take a less than appealing match up as we've seen in the past (Pitt/Utah), it would not surprise me if an tOSU type economic power would be moved to the Sugar Bowl. Obviously there are a lot of possiblities this early in the year and I haven't even attempted to touch on them. Look how long this post became and I didn't really say much of anything...
