THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State's win over Kent State wasn't meaningless, but it was one for the record books. Just ask OSU's Brian Hartline.
The sophomore returned a second-quarter punt 90 yards for a touchdown, the longest punt return in school history, to spark the Buckeyes' 48-3 victory.
"That's just crazy," Hartline said. "It's kind of like etched in stone now, right? Hopefully, it won't be the last record I get, but it's a huge honor."

UPDATE: 5:59 PM, Monday, October 15, 2007
REPOSITORY STAFF REPORT

COLUMBUS Ohio State?s Brian Hartline was named the Big Ten?s special teams player of the week on Monday.

Hartline broke a 57-year-old school record with a 90-yard punt return for a touchdown in Saturday?s 48-3 win over Kent State. The sophomore receiver from GlenOak also caught a 14-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring.

It is the first weekly honor of Hartline?s collegiate career.

Hartline also was recognized by the Buckeyes coaching staff as the special units player of the week. Quarterback Todd Boeckman, who threw for 184 yards and two touchdowns in just over one half, was selected offensive player of the week. Cornerback Donald Washington?s 70-yard interception return for a TD helped him earn defensive player of the week.

The Big Ten also announced Monday that Ohio State?s game at Penn State on Oct. 27 will start at 8 p.m. and be nationally televised by ABC.

I'm watching the HD replay of the Kent State game and Brian dominated from the opening drive on.

That first TD catch he had was like watching Smith to Gonzalez last year.:osu:

Nice crisp route, soft hands, smooth turn up field to score and most importantly, he tosses the ball to the ref and celebrates with his teammates like he'd been there before.

Hartline is gonna have more huge games I'm sure of it. Especially when the secondary focuses on Robo, Brian Hartline is gonna make em look stupid.

Great game Brian!!! The rest of the nation should be put on notice. I look forward to seeing you show off your skills through the heart of this B10 schedule. :oh:

OSU's Hartline has emerged as Boeckman's primary target

REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

COLUMBUS More than a year ago, Ohio State started the season as the 2006 preseason No. 1. The Buckeyes got off to a fast start ? one that kept rolling until the buzz saw that is the Florida Gators chopped them up ? and Brian Hartline was in the middle of it.

Troy Smith?s first pass of a Heisman Trophy season landed in Hartline?s hands. Could Hartline find a name for himself in a receiving unit featuring Ted Ginn Jr. and Anthony Gonzalez?

No.

That simple reception for 32 yards against Northern Illinois was the only pass Hartline caught that day.
