I believe this is a bigger deal than most. Not that I have an issue with a person riding his own ATV on his own property after hours. But I think this is a bad look. And he hasn’t been in pics with recruits in the past 8 days. Whether that is that he’s at home and nursing health, or at home and healthy are two very different things. Additionally, no matter what anybody says. It’s still a bad look - like most of us he’s my favorite coach. I hope he is ok

^ This. It suggests that he may have a substance abuse issue now or in future that will impact on his coaching production. Not at all a good look.

Maybe. Maybe the lessons learned about poor form open speculation via the Harry Miller situation weren’t so well learned. If you want the former, I’ll take the latter until proven otherwise.

There was comment from Day in an interview like 3 days ago that he was resting up at home.

We'll likely never know whether that's he needed the recovery time or they asked him to take some time off to work on himself.

Exactly. I have no idea what happened on the accident but I hope he recovers well. Being at a position where there is high pressure and exposure takes its toll. I think that if UFM was able to speak freely without thinking his job was on the line if he confessed it, he would have admitted to stress and anxiety of the job. I know Hartline isn't the HC yet, but he got elevated to OC and what I think most fans perceive as coach in waiting to some extent, so I would give him some breathing room without doubling down on judgment quite yet. Every athlete/coach in that position has had to deal with it.

But I would like to think it was one night of having too much fun after spring training. There is nothing to suggest otherwise right now. And I think that most in the forum that grew up in Ohio would be lying to say they haven't had a beer and drove an ATV on private property...or am I a redneck? Point is that it is an isolated incident for now and unless it becomes more, I can't really cast dispersions and nobody should. Get well coach.

Half the people I grew up with have slammed beers while either mowing their grass or riding a four wheeler. (3 wheeler in some cases, a badass 250R) And yes, there were a few spills that happened along the way.

Bad decision making? Yes. But hardly indicative of substance abuse.

edit: I should say this - I lost 3 childhood friends in 2 separate wrecks. One was coming home from a party after a few drinks. We believe he was actually clipped by a car who wasn't pay attention, he died several weeks later after fighting for his life. The two others, while they were closer to my late brother, (still grew up with them) died in a wreck where they were perfectly sober.

None of the 3 had drinking problems. Sometimes dumb shit just happens.

If I recall he got busted for DUI while in the NFL. Not saying he has a problem but this isn’t his first rodeo.

This is what I found, not sure how reliable since it is older news (2010); https://cheeseheadtv.com/nfl/dolphins-wr-brian-hartlines-truck-abandoned-at-scene-of-accident

Miami Dolphins second-year wide receiver Brian Hartline's pickup truck was found abandoned at the scene of an accident by the Florida Highway Patrol on Interstate 595 earlier this month, the Sun Sentinel reports.

"His vehicle ran off road and hit the parked car," said FHP Sgt. Mark Wysocky. "We don't know who was driving the vehicle."

The incident occurred at approximately 4:30am on July 3. When an FHP trooper went to Hartline's house, a guest requested that the trooper contact Hartline's wife, who was in California. Hartline's attorney returned the trooper's message, stating that Hartline was not injured.

The Florida Highway Patrol have yet to hear from Hartline, and are still investigating the accident.

I really like this guy. Few people have the potential for such a bright future. Most of us have had alcohol-fueled embarrassments. I woke up in Baltimore sleeping on a bench in the train station and have no idea how I got there from my Army base in Virginia. If you are 36 and still having such moments, it should be a cause to stop and evaluate. There are enough obstacles to high-level success in life without letting bad judgement stand in your own way. This event is a very public marker that will not be missed by future employers.
