OC Chip Kelly (Official Thread)

Perfect scenario for all parties. Chip no longer had the stomach to be a CFB HC, he just wanted to call plays and run an offense with the best talent. He was never going to get the talent that he’ll have at OSU. Kelly also reunites with Frye, and that can only be a plus, since their run game is something OSU can only dream of with Henderson and Judkins. And this allows Day to be the CEO of the entire team like what everyone wanted and the program needed.

How’s everyone feeling about this off-season so far?
Worked out well with fit and timing under the circumstances. Honestly, I think the fit is better than BoB and I was a fan of that hire...honestly not sure why Kelly wasn't the first pick anyways for the reasons above and his innovative play calling and scheme. Huge fan of this move and its funny Day said there were contingency plans in place...Kelly had a pen hovering over his OSU contract until Day said sign. Good work, this is going to be fun.

Was just watching some UCLA highlights and am concerned Kelly may utilize some illegal plays....

They had the QB under center.. he took the snap and sorta ran forward like he was looking for a spot to sneak through, and at the same time a motion guy came by and looked like he was pushing the QB ...amazed i didn't see any penalty flags.

Seriously though..looking forward to seeing what tweaks he brings to the offense.

I just won’t know what to do if we don’t turtle after we cross midfield when all we need is a field goal to win the natty. Or if we don’t throw naked wr screens when a corner and safety are standing out there on the line opposite the receiver. Or run straight up the middle on 2nd and 10 when the d had 8 in the box. I could go on. And I’m not bitter.

“We are extremely excited to have Chip and his wife, Jill, joining our program,” Ryan Day said in a news release. “His experience as a head coach at Oregon, UCLA and in the NFL will bring immediate value to our entire team. I am really looking forward to reconnecting with Chip, introducing him to our staff and team and chasing a championship together. “I would also like to wish coach Bill O’Brien and his family well as he takes over at Boston College.”

Yeah, but sometimes it can get expensive: Kelly was under contract until 2027. UCLA athletic director Martin Jarmond said UCLA will enforce a $1.5 million buyout.

I hope he sticks around the full 3, I’m not a contract lawyer (just a bum engineer) so I don’t know the intracacies, but you’re right in sure they get mightily expensive.

The school probably didn’t want to invest 3.5-4 mil on a year of an OC with his buyout, but then bob left and spring practice starts soon and who can they find ina week and next year is all or nothing so fuck it.
