OC Arthur Smith (Official Thread)

You know what I mean, and you're too smart for this. It's disingenuous. You're saying it as if that means he's good at his job. Certainly every coach on staff must be good, because look......they won a whole division.

Like, come on. You know it was a garbage division. You know the Steelers were not a good football team this year. You know the strength of the Steelers is the defense. Just saying "Hey HE won the division" isn't intellectually honest.....because 1) HE didn't win it, the team as a whole did, and 2) that was the worst division in the sport by a long shot. Don't quote me on this, because I don't know the exact scenarios....but at one point with like 4 or 5 games left, I read that they could have finished 8-9 and still won the division. Just saying "they won the division" is intentionally hiding how not good of a team they were. They weren't BAD, they were just not good.

This is outside the discussion of if Smith is a good hire or not. I just need to know that you know this, for my own mental well being.

I also don't think I posted any stats about him.....so I don't think I cherry picked any. I think I just said shit like he loves TEs and couldn't figure out how to have success with Bijan Robinson. But if I cherry picked something I'll admit to it, if your mental well being is on the line.
My mental well being is fine, and yours should be too. We root for the same time, but have differing views on this hire. And that's OK.
The AFC North was a terrible division, but 1 team had to win it. Arthur Smith was the OC of the team that won. Nothing about that is misleading, it is a fact. Of course the team won it as a whole, we all know that. You're trying to be petty and act like I'm meaning he won it on his own. Of course he didn't, but he led the offense which scored points, which led them to winning the division, again another fact. You keep ignoring the fact that the teams he had were not very talented(he also doesn't use TEs as much as you say, though he under utilized Bijan), and were quite limited, idk what else to tell you and I'm sorry if that doesn't help your well being.
Everyone has an opinion of a hire until the games are played, and the truth is shown. OSU fans questioned: Hartline, Day, LJsr, and Kelly to name a few, but yet those same fans loved the Coombs hire for DC. We literally will not know a thing until games are played.

I'm not sure what you're looking for me to tell you. I refuse to spend an off season complaining about the hire, as opposed to seeing the positives in it. There are countless other teams who would love to be in our fan position. I have buddies who are fans of FSU, Purdue, Texas, South Carolina, UVA, VA Tech, NC State, etc and all would love to be in our position, and Smith would be considered a steal to them.

How many times do I have to say I'm not talking about the hire right now. I just want to know that a respected poster knows that they're saying something disingenuous and can at least admit to it. I'll try to spell it out even further.

You said the Steelers won the division....and you left it at that. What I'm assuming you meant by that is that something must have been successful with the offense in order to win the division.....otherwise, why even bring it up, right? But that's not something I will concede, because I don't think the Steelers offense was good this year...and I don't think winning that division was anything other than being the tallest midget. I think you brought it up to carry more weight than it's capable of carrying.....and I was just hoping you knew that.

Not Arthur Smith” is not an acceptable answer BN27 for as hard as you have gone after the hire.

If you are going to die on this hill, you at least have to give some alternatives.
Sorry....I don't agree. People who say this are just looking for a way to rip apart my suggestions in some kind of gotcha moment. Let's say the person hired was an assistant poop cleaner at the San Diego Zoo. Or maybe it's a new born baby. Or maybe it's a rock painted green. I don't have to offer up alternative names to say all three of those are bad ideas, right? You wouldn't fight me if they hired a 17 year old girl from Japan who has never watched football and speaks zero English, right? That would be absurd. I'm putting Arthur Smith on the same list.

I'm pretty sure he was using his volcano analogy to say Day should just leave the OC position open (just don't jump into the volcano). If Day doesn't hire anyone (doesn't jump into the volcano) the better solution is operate without an OC. Maybe it would be better if he just lets the players make up plays in the huddle like we did as kids than to hire Smith.

Who would you have liked?

Let's not write off the poop cleaner just yet. We need more info.

Idk how much more I can explain what I said above. You said the AFCN was a terrible division. And I agreed. And then you started making your OPINION heard, when I said FACTS. That's the difference.
I don't think the Steelers offense was good this year...and I don't think winning that division was anything other than being the tallest midget.
You are stating your opinions here. The fact of the matter is in the AFCN division, there was a winner. No matter how strong or weak YOU believe the division to be, the OC of the team that WON the division was Arthur Smith. That is still a big deal. Especially when you consider the lack of weapons he had. And that's all I've been stating(over and over and over again). Because you don't THINK its a strong division, matters little. In 5-10yrs from now, his resume will say that he led an offense that won the AFCN, no one will care how strong or weak it is. We can play that opinion game year by year.

:smash:

None of this is new. What I'm trying to suss out, is if you realize saying ThEy WoN tHe DiViSiOn doesn't carry the weight you think it does. That's not an opinion of how good or bad the Steelers are.....take the Steelers out of it. You just said it because it sounds more impressive than it really is. Does winning the division mean he's a good OC? Of course not. You can win a division by only scoring defensive touchdowns if the ball bounces your way.

Taking the hire out of it (again), in high school I had the 27th best GPA. Sounds pretty impressive......without the context, right?

To reiterate......I've stopped arguing the hire with you pages ago. I'm just arguing that of the several methods you chose to support your argument, ONE was faulty. NOT THE FACTS.....the method.

Wow. It's not a cop out. I don't have to have the right answer to be able to know there's a wrong one. You're just wanting me to say names so you can poke holes in an argument I'm not making.
Not true, I just get sick of people complaining but never offering any solutions. Complaining takes no intellect but providing solutions does.

It's not just you but rather a societal problem.

It’s amazing how fans believed they know better than NC winning coaches and managers.

Apparently Arthur Smith killed someone’s dog!

Why don’t we give the guy a chance before pronouncing him a failure. I’m sure our beloved fringe will have plenty to whine when the season starts given the schedule. At least our tears will be on something concrete by then.
